A woman of valour, devoted mother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin and cherished friend.
It is with deep and profound sadness that the family of Raphaela announces her passing on Friday, December 18, 2020, in her 49th year, after a long and valiant battle which she fought with strength, and unwavering determination. We are all absolutely heartbroken and shocked. She was loved by and is survived by her beloved daughter, other family members including, Aviva, Orly, Sheila and Gary, Diane, Rivka, Allan, RB, Sandy, Sharlene, Esther, Manes z”l and Clara z”l, Edith z”l and Anton z”l and many more. Her friendships meant so much to her. In particular her dear close friends, Joel and Lois, and Mr. and Mrs. Gehr. She was modest, resilient, fiercely loyal, and a lover of life, determined to embrace and live every moment she had. She always gave anything she undertook in life her absolute all. Her heart was big and she had that special capacity and mastery to tackle any of the many challenges and hurdles presented to her over the years with dignity and head on, never giving up. Raphaela needed to know who she was, who her ancestors were and what her exact place was in the extraordinary assembly of stars, planets, moon and sun we call our universe. Family, to which she dedicated her life, meant absolutely everything to her. Her tenacity and deep understanding of the exigency and basic human longing for identity and connection to family and roots forms part of her beautiful and extraordinary legacy and was paramount to who she was. She impacted and imparted so much to so many. She was an equestrian who loved horses and especially her beloved Satinka. At the time of her passing, she was enrolled in her final semester of her history degree at Concordia University – completing essays during medical treatment up until her last week of life – achieving a life-long goal of what she had started 26 years ago when her university studies at Tel Aviv Unversity in Israel were unfortunately interrupted with her first diagnosis of illness. A very special thank you to the many doctors and nurses who treated and supported Raphaela throughout in particular Dr. Stephen Caplan and Dr. Khashayar Esfahani. May her memory be a blessing and her legacy continue to shine bright, as did her beautified smile that could light up any room. A private graveside service will take place. Private shiva in Toronto. Contributions in her memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
We love you Raph. Rest in Peace.
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Raphaela Blum 2020..
