Randolph Gerald Watson
1952-2020
Randolph Gerald Watson of Harvey, York Co.,NB passed away peacefully
at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital in Fredericton, NB on December
29, 2020, with family by his side. Randy was born on March 27, 1952
to James and Pauline (Wilkins) Watson in Fredericton. He grew up on
the family farm in Dumfries.
Randy worked as a pipefitter, and was a member of the Local 352
Plumbers and Pipefitters Union; from which he just recently received
his 50 year pin. His work often took him far away from home for
extended periods of time. He has worked all across Canada, from
Newfoundland to the Northwest Territories, and many points in
between.
In 1970 he met his future wife Janet (Swan) at a dance at the Taylor
Hall in Harvey. They began dating a short time after and were wed on
May 19, 1973. They eventually settled in Tweedside, NB and have
remained there ever since.
After being stricken with various health issues, including 2 kidney
transplants and four hip replacements, he was forced into early
retirement. His day often started with coffee and a doughnut at the
local Irving where he got caught up on the daily news. He could often
be found tending to his gardens, mowing the lawns, working in his
woodlot or carving one of his beautiful bird carvings which can be
found displayed in the homes of his friends and family. He loved
watching his 3 oldest grandsons play basketball; and while many knew
Randy as a quiet man, he often would get rambunctious during the
heated, close scored games. Randy joined other members of the Watson
family each spring at the old homestead to tap the sugar bush and boil
down sap into maple syrup. He was an avid outdoorsman and his passion
for wildlife and nature has been passed on from himself to his sons
and grandsons. He had many enjoyable trips to his hunting camps on the
Northeast Deadwater and later on Morrow Brook. Randy was a very
competitive card player. He and Janet often took road trips to the
Annapolis Valley to visit family, or day trips with friends and family
by car and later on their side by side. He loved his little dog Tatum,
who was always at his side.
He will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather; one
in which his family was blessed with. Survived by his wife Janet;
sons Michael (Tammy), Steven, and David (Benjamin); grandsons Josh,
Devin, Tyler, and Elliott; sisters Nancy Lockhard (Basil), Anna Walsh
and Louise Murphy (Phillip); brothers Robert (Linda) and Austin; a
sister-in-law Pam Watson; in-laws Stuart Swan (Brenda) and Susan Swan
(Andrew); several nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by his parents James and Pauline (Wilkins) Watson; brother
David; brother-in-law Marvin Walsh; sister-in-law Faye Watson and his
parents-in-law, Claude and Genevie Swan.
There will be no visitation or funeral service at this time due to
COVID19. A memorial service will be held at later date. Interment at
Harvey Settlement Cemetery.
The family requests that donations be made to the Kidney Foundation of
Canada or St. Andrews United Church in Harvey.
