After 92 years exceptionally well lived, Phyllis Hansen Green Rowe, formerly of Queen Elizabeth Dr., Bathurst, NB, died peacefully at home on January 19th, 2020 in Vernon, BC. She lived a long and remarkable life. Those who knew her admired the tenacity and love of life that carried her through until the end.
Phyllis is survived by her devoted husband, Floyd Rowe of Vernon, BC and by her children David Green (Judy) Bathurst, Susan Green, Vancouver, Debbie Green McLean (Stephen McLean) Bathurst, and Anna Green (Dan Hopkins) Armstrong, BC, as well as ten grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, two brothers, two sisters, many nieces and nephews, and countless friends on both the East and West Coasts.
Phyllis was predeceased by her first husband, Hollie G. Green, her daughter, Wendy Green, and a son and daughter in infancy, Stephen Hansen and Laura Louise.
Born to parents Albert Hansen and Frances (Jensen) Hansen, Phyllis spent her formative years in New Denmark, NB. Phyllis was proud of her Danish heritage and this fueled a passion for genealogical research, which took her on a journey back to the ancestral farm in Jutland, Denmark. Phyllis was also a natural-born storyteller and she published a book of stories based on true-life events.
Phyllis’ beachfront home in Bathurst was the heart and soul of the family for years; the door was quite literally always open for streams of sandy-footed children, relatives and friends looking for a snack, a rest, a hug or a sense of home.
Following two decades as a real estate agent, broker and business owner in Bathurst and BC, she and Floyd split their time between British Columbia and New Brunswick; winters in Kelowna and summers in Youghall. Her many interests ranging from bridge club, writing, frequent stays at Anna and Dan’s farm, skiing, coffee on the deck and sitting by a campfire kept her life full and rich with adventure.
Phyllis, Mom, Grammie will be remembered warmly the next time we roll up our pants and stroll along the sandbars.
A memorial service will be held in the spring. Arrangements are in the care of Elhatton Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst.
