PAUL ALBERT FREDERICK PERREAULT
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Paul Perreault at 8:57am on Tuesday, August 25, 2020 at 89 years of age. After a brave, valiant 3 year battle in and out of hospitals for pneumonia and various other medical conditions, he finally succumbed to pneumonia and the irreparable effects of a stroke suffered on August 12, (35 years to the day of his first wife Nancy’s passing).
Sadly due to COVID, only two members of his family were allowed to visit on a weekly, rotational schedule. Rest assured that he was reminded daily that all of his loved ones would also have visited had they been allowed and he would nod his head knowingly. We would like to sincerely thank the compassionate and dedicated Doctors, Nurses and staff of the Grace Hospital for trying to save and comfort him. A special thanks to Dr. April Boyd for all her care over the years… he really appreciated all you did for him, as did we.
Paul was predeceased by his mother Anna Benoit and father Edouard, his first love Nancy Barker, his sisters Cecile (Denis), Simone (Don), brothers Emile and Peter. He is survived by his second wife Barbara, daughters Pat Coutts, Sue Howard (Russ), Sandra Rogers (Craig), 7 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. His son Marcel (Deb) and granddaughter Shelby; a son Phil (Carrie); a daughter Janet (Mitch); a son Paul Jr. (Barbara) step sons Graham (Janelle) and Daren (Jeff). Sister-in-law Carol, her children Barbara Ann, Shannon, Terry and Jennifer; Sister-in-law Laura, her children Wendy and Valerie and many cousins, nephews and nieces.
Paul was born in St. Norbert, Manitoba on April 29, 1931, received his education at St. Avila School, St. Norbert Boys College and the St. Boniface Juniorat. He met his first love Nancy Barker also of St. Norbert and was married on February 16, 1952. They lived and raised a wonderful family of 4 in St. Norbert. Hand-built his first home on Rue des Trappistes and lived his entire life in St. Norbert. Family activities would always be centered around sports, camping, barbecues and hosting many parties and gatherings. His home was always filled with love and laughter. Paul actively played many sports but his passion was mainly golf, fastball, bowling, horseshoes and curling. He was a player/coach for the St. Norbert Rebels and was a feared long ball hitter. He was also a member of the St. Norbert Crowd Pleasers Horseshoes Club winning many tournaments. He was an accomplished ten pin bowler representing Manitoba at the Wichita USA seniors tournament. He coached the St. Adolphe Panthers fastball team, was a member of Southwood Golf and Country Club, a Board Member there for 8 years and had the privilege of serving as President in the year 2000. He served as a member of the Steering Committee for their new golf course construction in St. Norbert and particularly enjoyed helping to develop the maintenance department. He received an Honorary Lifetime Membership in 2005.
Paul was also an active member and President of the South of the Border condo board. Employed by Bristol Aerospace for 44 years, starting as a sheet metal worker, then production control, production, planning, management of subcontracts, estimating, purchasing agent, and finally becoming Director of Materials until retirement in 1992. He loved woodworking, renovating projects and making various board games for family and friends… shuffle boards, bean bag toss and cribbage boards.
He also did string art for Gabrielli’s Gift Shop on Osborne Street with one of his pieces being bought by the President of the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra at that time.
People loved Paul and respected him, “nice guy, such a gentleman, great guy”… these sentiments were common descriptions of our father.
He was our “Superman” and we will miss him dearly… his guidance, his wit, his heart, his warmth, his whistling and his big laugh.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to Heart & Stroke Foundation or a Charity of your choice.
In keeping with Paul’s wishes, cremation has taken place and due to COVID-19, no funeral service will be held and a private family interment will take place at a later date.
