Obituary
Our Mom passed away on Friday, May 22, 2020 at 5:30 pm surrounded by the love and support of her three daughters and her husband, Derek at her side.
She leaves to forever miss her, her loving husband of 69 years, Derek; children, Gerry (Orest), Wendy (Robert), Lishien (Robert deceased), and Pamela (Michael); grandchildren, Ian, Christine (James), Dylan (Krystyn), Jennifer (Dave), Antony, Derek, Julia, Cameron (Darolyn), Courtney (Steven), Kyla (Toby); great grandchildren, Calla, Hadley, Mackenzie, Silas, Honour, and Leo. Mom was predeceased by brothers, Ivan, and Jack; sisters, Joan, and Geraldine; and her beloved son, Robert.
She was completely devoted to our dad for 69 years and 123 days. After our mom left this earth, my sisters and I and my husband, Michael had a chance to chat with dad for a couple of hours. He became so animated telling us stories of how our Mom ventured to England at the age of 20 to meet him. He said he was very nervous when he met her and was captivated by her in so many ways. My mom had to write home to her father to gain permission to marry my Dad because she wasn’t quite 21 years of age.
Our mom was always adventurous and creative. She and my dad travelled back to Canada with two little girls in tow. Two more kids arrived a few years after settling in southern Ontario. There were trips to band practice, skating lessons, and ballet lessons. She learned to sail with my dad and insisted on taking swimming lessons so she would be able to “rescue your father”. Then there was building and finishing their summer home in the Haliburton Highlands.
She had a knack for computers and loved playing Wolfenstein! Mom was introduced as “Grambo” by her grandchildren. She took great pride in her gardens and could make anything grow. Mom loved creating artwork leaving behind some wonderful framed paintings. She was great with numbers, baking pies, knitting, and love to “tickle the ivories” giving Chopin a run for his money. Mom encouraged each of us in her own way and poured her love and time on her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She lives on in all of us in some way as we remember her for her fun sense of humour and her devotion to my dad. We will forever miss her and will miss watching my dad dote on her.
A visitation will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, June 1, 2020 at Yates Memorial Services, 4470 Gertrude Street in Port Alberni followed by a Graveside Service in the Alberni Valley Memorial Gardens.
