Passed away peacefully, at home, in the arms of his wife Norma Jean Farrish, on November 13, 2020 in his 88th year. Otto was born in Bandung in the former Dutch East Indies presently known as Indonesia on October 27, 1933. Civil War in Indonesia forced all people of European descent to leave the country, resulting in his family moving to Holland. Otto was a merchant marine for 11 years and travelled the world several times. Canada impressed him more than any other country he saw, so in 1964 he immigrated here as a skilled tradesman. He shared that due to his mixed race he was never accepted in Indonesia or Holland, but Canada welcomed him and treated him well. He was an employee of Eagle Precision Brantford until his retirement.
He is survived by his wife Norma Jean Farrish, has been a father figure to Curtis and Christine Farrish of Brantford, and Craig Farrish and Aimee Gallie of Nova Scotia. He was a doting and much loved Opa to Lucas, Isaac, Ian, Brady, Sarah, Jacob, Sophie and pre-deceased by baby Katie Grace. Forever remembered by his siblings Liese, Henny, Charles, Alex and Leo as well as many nieces and nephews live in Holland.
Otto was passionate about cycling, wrestling, woodworking, and international cuisine. He was a quiet, steadfast gentle soul and will be missed by his many friends and special feline buddy “Flash.”
Funeral arrangements entrusted to the DWAYNE D. BUDGELL Funeral Home. In accordance with Otto’s wishes, no Funeral Service will be held. A Celebration of Life will be arranged post Covid. As per Otto’s wishes, there will be a lot of cake! In Otto’s memory, donations to the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation (www.heartandstroke.ca/) will be graciously accepted.
“Kindness is the mark he will leave on this world”
