Olga Sau 1923 2020

Obituary of Olga Sau
Olga Elizabeth Sau was born on the Baltic Sea, Estonia in 1923. She was the youngest child, and only girl, of six children. In her childhood years, she spent her time riding horses in the beautiful scenery and swimming in the stunning waters that surrounded her. Leaving the homestead at 18 years old, she fell in love with Ilo (1980) and they moved to Sweden. While there she gave birth to their only daughter, Luule Marie (2017). When Lu was young they came to Canada on the MS Ostervag and it was a wildly dangerous and long trek across unsettled waters. They resided in Toronto for a short time and got married. They relocated to Balmy Beach where she lived most of her life. The waterways of Owen Sound reminded her of Estonia and for this reason it really felt like home. She loved cookies with tea, gardening, being one with nature and all of Gods creatures. Being the only member of her family to flee the turmoil in her home country, she never did unite with her brothers or parents again. Olga was the daughter of Maria and Victor Pappel, the sister of Artur, Teodor, Valter and 2 brothers who predeceased her birth. Olga had a very independent and strong passion for life resulting from both hardships and true love. She could be as tough as nails or as sweet as candy. Heather McLennan (Brady), Shane Thom (Sue) and Jason Thom (Jacinda) are proud to call her Grandma. She was blessed with great-grandchildren as well as great-great-grandchildren. Others keeping her memory alive are her daughters of the heart, Linda Smith and Kathleen Daisley; her cousins in Estonia, Hillar Pappel and Tiina Roosepoo; always remembered by Bruce Thom; her church family at Rockcliffe Pentecostal Church; and the friends and caregivers she met at both Regency Tower and Central Place. Olga passed peacefully at Central Place Retirement Home in Owen Sound, on Wednesday morning, September 30th, 2020 at the age of 97 years. At long last she will be at peace with her husband, daughter and immediate family.
