Nancy Kacso
On Thursday, May 7th, 2020, the world became a little duller with the passing of our mom, Nancy Kacso (née Davies).
Those who are fortunate enough to have called her a friend, loved one or family member can attest: Nancy was genuine, loving, free-spirited; behind her feisty, “Irish blue eyes” there was an incredible zest for life. She was never afraid to stick up for “the little guy” and was generous to others less fortunate, though she did not have significant means herself.
Born August 12, 1953 in Stouffville, Ontario, Nancy spent her childhood in North Bay, Ontario. At 19, she married and later had two sons: Craig and, 5 years later, Peter. The family moved from Ontario to North Vancouver in 1988 and later settled in Vernon, BC in 1993. In 2000, Nancy moved to Kelowna and then on to different locations in BC, Alberta, and later Saskatchewan. Our mom was never one to back down from a challenge, a new adventure, or – most importantly to her – meeting new friends; she had friends in more places than we can count.
As a mom, she always did her best for us. Our homes when we were young were the central hub of activity; friends were welcome anytime for a quick hang-out, an impromptu dinner or even a place to stay for weeks if needed. Our childhood friends remember her as their “second-mom” and “one of the cool ones”.
The past 20 years saw our mom on many an adventure; of note, a 24,000-mile motorcycle journey through 34 states over 4 months (we’ve got the postcards to prove it!). This past year, she moved to Saskatoon, SK to be closer to family – to plant some roots and enjoy being a grandma. Unfortunately, her health had started to change a few years earlier and eventually her body threatened to fail her indomitable spirit.
Our mom – beautiful, fiery, proud, and bright – passed peacefully with us, her two sons, by her side.
She will be missed and remembered by her countless friends – and most profoundly by her two sons and their families: Craig, Maria and their children Mackenzie and Liam; and Peter, Kelsey, and their daughter Zuri.
We love you mom. Be at peace.
