Myrna Stothart
1938-2020
Myrna G. Stothart, 81 of Salisbury
passed away unexpectedly on Friday, August 28, 2020. Born in
Bathurst NB, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Mabel
Wood.
Myrna is predeceased by her husband of
58 years, Ian Stothart (2017). She was very proud of her
five children and is survived by her daughters Jane Trites (Kevin) of
Salisbury NB, Susan Stothart (Maurice Carriere) of Sudbury ON, and her
son David Stothart (Cathy) of Halifax NS. She was
predeceased by two daughters, Gayle and Margot. Holding a
very special place in her heart are her five grandchildren, Carson,
Ryan, Peyton, Michael and Emma. She is also survived by and
will be missed by her sister Gertrude Abernethy of Bathurst,
sister-in-law Janet Stothart of Miramichi, several nieces and nephews;
predeceased by her brothers Allen Wood (Lucille), Charles Wood
(Ethel), Raymond, Bobby and baby sister in
infancy.
The majority of Myrna’s life
was spent in Bathurst NB. A teacher by profession, Myrna
taught elementary school retiring from South Bathurst School in
1993. She was very active in her community and her church, a
member of Beta Sigma Phi, founding member of the Kinette club, and
held various positions through the years at Saint Georges Anglican
church. As though raising five children, teaching, and
volunteering didn’t keep her busy enough, Myrna found time
for university courses and, with her trademark determination, in 10
years graduated with her Bachelor of Arts.
Myrna and Ian spent many happy summers
with their children at the Youghall beach cottage she purchased from
her teacher’s salary, informing her husband after the
fact. In retirement, they enjoyed winters in Labelle Florida
until the call of grandchildren brought them home. An avid
bridge player, Myrna played regularly until the current
pandemic. She loved her flower gardens and was enjoying
adding her special touch to her home in Salisbury. Her very
spoiled cat Willie brought her great comfort and companionship in the
past few years and is missing his favorite person.
Due to Covid 19 restrictions, a private
service at will be held at the Salisbury Funeral Home
(506-372-4800). Interment in Saint George’s
Anglican Cemetery, Bathurst, NB at a later date. We hope
Mom’s friends and extended family find comfort in their
memories of times spent with her and wholeheartedly thank them for
their condolences.
Donations in memory of Myrna may be made
to a charity of the donor’s choice.
