La célébration de
Michael Philip Amsden
18 août 1935 –
4 décembre 2020
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our father, Michael Amsden on December 4, 2020. Dad passed away from complications due to Alzheimer’s, leaving his wife of 62 years Lorna, his daughters Lisa Amsden (husband Bob Maloney), Sherrill McCall (husband John, deceased), Maureen Clarke (husband Michael) and Julia Celebre (husband Gino) and his son Brian (wife Sharon), grandchildren Erin, Connor and Stephen Maloney, Kyle and Thomas McCall, Gillian and Kathleen Clarke, Jordan and Joshua Celebre, and Natasha, Rachel, Heather, Maria and Jennifer Amsden, and great-grandchild Duncan McCall.
Dad was born in Victoria, B.C. but spent his formative years in Nelson on the north shore of Kootenay Lake hiking, fishing and searching for indigenous arrow heads along the shoreline. He studied Mining Engineering at the University of British Columbia where he met his wife-to-be Lorna Ryder at Acadia Camp. Following graduation, Dad worked at a variety of locations, including Yellowknife, Lakefield, Ireland, Timmins, Toronto, and Santiago Chile in a career that saw him move from Flotation Engineer at Giant Mine in Yellowknife to President and CEO of Northern Palladium in Thunder Bay. In retirement, Dad enjoyed his family, painting, pottery, golfing, curling, fly-fishing with his grandchildren in and around Nelson, and cruising the world with Mom. Dad was widely respected as a work colleague, and for those who knew him best for his honesty, integrity, humor and generosity. He lived a rich and full life and we hope he is resting peacefully.
