Merle R. Purdy
Merle R. Purdy, 92, of Moncton passed away peacefully
with in the comforts of his home on Monday, November 23, 2020. Born in
Fredericton, he was the son of the late George and Evelyn (Olive)
Purdy. Merle retired as an accountant with CN with 39 years of
service. He was a member of Mountain View United Church. He was a
retired Deputy Chief Moncton Volunteer Firefighter Association with 40
years of service. He was a good friend of Bill W. for 43 years, and
the Moncton Curlers Association.
Merle is survived by his wife of 48 years, Harriet
(Brown) (Shirley) Purdy, daughter Barbara « Barb » Gauvin
(Michel), sons Brian Purdy (Alberte), Brent Purdy, Ian Purdy (late
Janet), Carle Brown (Peggy), and Brian Brown (Linda). 15
grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren;
sister, Joyce Holmes (late George) and sister in law, Audrey Purdy;
several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his
first wife, Eleanor (Kent) Purdy (1970); daughter in law, Janet;
sisters, Frances Phinney and Lois Cormier; and brother,
Hubert.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Fergusons Funeral
Home, 1957 Mountain Rd, Moncton
(858-1995).
A private interment for family and close friends will
take place at Fair Haven Memorial Gardens.
A special thank you to Dr. M. Dorval, Dr. B. Colpitts,
and Dr. E. Theriault; the extra mural team; and Hospice of Greater
Moncton for the compassion and care shown to Merle over the past few
years.
