LAWRENCE PAUL « LARRY » McTIGHE, beloved husband of the late Marie McTighe, passed away peacefully at the St. Michael’s Health Centre – Palliative Care Unit after a brief battle with cancer, on Friday, October 30, 2020 at the age of 73 years.
Larry is survived by his sisters, Theresa (Tess) Phillips and Elaine Richards as well as numerous nephews and nieces.
He was predeceased by his wife, Marie (née Koch), mother Imelda (of whom he frequently spoke very fondly and always referred to as “Ma McTighe”) and father, Patrick, brothers, Lou, Bernard (Jock), Garrett, Emmett (Mickey), Frank and Ebby and sisters Pat, Imelda and Ruth.
Larry had a kind, gentle heart and touched the lives of numerous people. He had a special way of helping and asking for help. He will be sadly missed by everyone whose lives he touched.
As a foster child, Larry found a stable and loving home with the McTighe family, with whom he lived for 16 years. Larry married his longtime friend Marie at the age of 26 and the two began their lives together, working fulltime delivering newspapers in the Calgary area. He was also very involved in the Scouting movement at this time. In 1999, following the passing of his mother in-law, the couple moved to Lethbridge for a fresh start.
During his time in Lethbridge, Larry was very available and volunteered with many groups, including Cubs & Scouts in Calgary (before moving to Lethbridge), Sik-Ooh-Kotoki Friendship Society, Metis Nation – Alberta Association, Knights of Columbus – Lethbridge Council 1490 and Royal Canadian Legion – General Stewart Branch.
A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at ST. BASIL’S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 604 – 13 Street North, Lethbridge, AB, on Thursday, November 12, 2020 at 10:00 A.M. with Father Kevin Tumback celebrating
