Born in Sarnia Township, Lambton County on January 23, 1922, a daughter of the late Thomas and Mary Walker (nee Scott) Jackson, Ruth passed away at the Meaford Long Term Care Centre on Thursday January 16, 2020 at the age of 97.
Ruth and her beloved husband Malcolm ‘Mac’ McGugan were married on April 20, 1946 and were longtime residents of Thornbury and the Beaver Valley area since 1960 where they owned and operated the mill beside the Beaver River and operated Imperial Hay Company until the early 70’s when Mac became involved in real estate and Ruth was his most capable assistant throughout his endeavours. Mac predeceased Ruth in May of 1990.
Ruth will be remembered as the dearly loved mother and Mom of Bob McGugan and his wife Suzanne of Brampton, Joan Sangster of Thornbury, and Bev and her husband Gary Dillon of Shallow Lake.
She will be recalled with great affection by her grandchildren: Mike McGugan of Mississauga, Gregg and Dawn Sangster of Paris and their children Clara and Alexander, Steven and Anna lee Sangster of Kitchener and their sons Elliot and Julien, Ian and Lauren Sangster of Toronto and their children Anabelle and Dean, Amy and Darren Griffith of Guelph and their daughter Danica and Heather and Bob Bayus of Cortland, Ohio and their daughter Leah.

Ruth was a dedicated member of the Whately Rebekah Lodge in Thornbury serving in its causes for much of her life. Ruth was an active member and supporter of the Beaver Valley Athletic Association and she was also a member of Grace United Church attending while her health would permit. In more recent years she became a welcomed addition to the home of her daughter Bev until deteriorating health necessitated the move to the Long Term Care Centre in Meaford.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service celebrating Ruth’s wonderful life will be conducted at Grace United Church in Thornbury with a reception to follow on April 20, 2020 at a time to be announced. Ruth’s cremated remains will be interred with those of her late husband Mac at Thornbury-Clarksburg Union Cemetery.
