Obituary for
Mary Louisa Warner (Kredl)
June 4 1932 – June 29 2020
Mary passed away peacefully, at Maplewood residence in Ottawa, after spending her last 11 days surrounded by family, at the age of 88. About a year and a half before her death, she had been diagnosed with lung cancer. She decided to forgo evasive efforts to prolong her life, after seeing how dad had suffered from these. She did follow some homeopathic cures which were a blessing. Finally, she was taken from us after a stroke. Beloved wife, best friend and partner of Albert Bethune Warner who preceeded her by 22 years, in 1998, and with whom she is now reunited.
Beloved mother of Brian Warner and Karen Firth of Rochester Hills, Michigan, Bruce Warner and Kathleen Moore of Ottawa, Ontario, Barry Warner and Robin Bayly of Ivy Lea, Ontario, Blaire Warner and Tom Condie of Lighthouse Point, Florida and preceded by Patricia Warner, of Ottawa.
Grandmother and St. Donat camp leader/cook to Sheena and Alex, Ryan and Michelle, Andrew and Tooba, Ginger and Alex, Lindsey, Lerica and Dominic, Samantha, Justin, Cristina and Braedon, Alexa and Nicholas.
Great grandmother to her loving grandkids Chloe, Owen, Elle and Kennedy.
Reunited mother/grandmother of Anthony and Lisa who passed at birth 30 years apart.
Daughter and Little Princess of Louis and Marry Kredl, and younger sister of Louis and Otto who preceded her.
Mary grew up in Park Extension/Montreal and enjoyed life and sports with her family and friends. This included spending time at the family cottage on Lake Champlain, New York. At the age of 11 she lost her beloved father, due to a work accident. Unable to support her, her loving mother placed her with family friends, The Reverend Fairbairn and his family, who took care of her like she was their own. She enjoyed the friendship and support of her second set of siblings, Benjamin and Betty, who preceded her.
By the time she married the love of her life, Albert Warner on March 22, 1952, she had been the Captain of a Montreal Championship winning hockey team, coached by her friend Dickie Moore. She was also a model, ballerina, and after marriage took up skiing, and became a competitive golfer, bowler and curler and participated in the Quebec curling Championship.
At the age of 16, she began work as a secretary at Sun Life in downtown Montreal. When dad joined the firm, she was already engaged, but he knew she was his lifetime partner and he pursued and eventually won her over. Over the next 46 years they continued to build a life of love, joy and happiness, and when not at their residences of Montreal and latter Ottawa spent time at their homes in Florida, Vermont and their beloved St Donat, where they were joined by family and friends.
While she loved, and was loved by her family, after dad’s death in 1998 there was always a part missing. She longed for the day they would be reunited.
She will be missed by those she left behind, but we know that she will be organizing things for our great reunion.
As per her request, no viewing or funeral ceremony will be held. Instead we ask her friends to take a moment and remember her.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be made to either the Shriners or Cancer societies, in memory of mom.
