Obituary of Marjre McCoubrey
Marjre McCoubrey died peacefully at her retirement home, November 2, 2020 just shy of her 93rd birthday. She is predeceased by her siblings Roy, Denis, Reg, and Elizabeth; will be missed by her brother Gordon.
Born in Britain, she emigrated to Canada at the age of 19, becoming a Canadian citizen soon after. Marjre was adventurous and aspiring, she acted on her ideas without worrying about failure. As a Guider and Leader, she sparked enthusiasm in others. An accomplished knitter, she shared her talent with others, leading groups, teaching both seniors and public school students, and held a few annual outdoor ‘knit-ins. As a talented quilter she was active in local guild and quilting groups. Whether Book Club, Seniors Centre, Horticultural Society, etc, she was always generating ideas!
Unable to find hearing aids for her son locally, she started her own successful dispensary.
Marjre was a lifelong advocate for persons with disabilities, particularly in Welland and Smiths Falls, where she volunteered in local associations.
Marjre adored her late husband Harry McCoubrey. She will be lovingly missed by her children Jane (Richard) Sue (Adam), Chris, Tim (Donna), stepson Dane (Marnie) and niece Vanda (Rick). Also by her grandchildren Eliza, Jacob, Jared, Jehanne, Jeremy, John, Kathryn, Ryan, Sean, Tristan, and her nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren. Each one hold a special place in her heart.
Family, extended family, and friends, she touched us all with her smile, her care and interest in our lives. She thoroughly enjoyed having us altogether for holiday dinners and summer picnics.
Many or her family will remember her through the quilts she enjoyed making us, for new babies, college dorm rooms, or to adorn our walls.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Brockville and District Association for Community Involvement, Camp Merrywood Easter Seals, or United Way of Leeds and Grenville.
