1935-2020
HENNEBERRY, Margaret E. (Betty) RN
Age 85. Mom
died peacefully at home and on her own terms in Hebbville, N.S. on
July 22, 2020 surrounded by her family. Born in the family home in
Allendale, N.S. on May 2, 1935, she was the youngest daughter of the
late Warren and Helen (Hardy) Allen. She was predeceased by her
husband Albert, of 56 years, her sister Virginia and brother-in-law
Weldon Atkinson. She will be lovingly remembered by her children,
Patti (Brian) Colford, Jamie (Virginia), Debbie (Joey) Shadbolt, Peter
and Tim (Lori-Anne); grandchildren Caitlyn Colford, Brianna (Pat)
LeBlanc, Ben (Meaghan) Colford, Chelsea Munro, A.J.(Danielle)
Henneberry, Jillian (Everett) Shadbolt, Jessica Shadbolt, Victoria and
Catherine Henneberry; great grandchildren Reid, Madeline, Landon,
Flynn and Remi and several sister & brothers-in-law, nieces,
nephews and cousins. Mom graduated from Lockeport Regional High in
1952, taught for 3 months in a one room schoolhouse in Allendale in
1953, then moved to Halifax where she completed her Nurses Training at
the Halifax Children’s Hospital in 1956. Mom met her future
husband here and they were married in 1957, where she was welcomed
into a large Newfoundland family. Shortly after, she retired from
nursing to raise their five children. In 1972, she returned to nursing
at the I.W.K., where she worked for 10 years. She was involved in
various community activities in Spryfield, including Spryfield Days
and the Lioness Club. Mom loved baking, making bread and creating
crafts, which she and Dad sold from their home during their annual
Christmas Craft Fair. This tradition continued for many years in their
retirement home in Hebbville. Mom was an avid gardener and always
enjoyed fresh cut flowers throughout her home. She enjoyed quilting,
knitting, and writing letters and always kept a daily journal which
will make for an interesting read. She always took pride in her
appearance and in her home – and anyone who knew her, knew
there was nothing ever out of place! Mom loved her family more than
anything and enjoyed having us for Christmas and Thanksgiving dinners,
along with the annual Easter Egg Hunt. After Dad’s passing,
she was able to remain in her home with the help from her three sons,
who kept the home and property always looking nice. Mom enjoyed many
sleepovers with her two daughters & their friends, going on
road trips, and of course, her favorite thing to do – shop.
Mom had a wonderful sense of humor and always made people laugh. She
was very fortunate to have wonderful neighbours, who would visit or
drop off treats and she took comfort in knowing they were always
there. The family would like to thank Rod and Ann Golden, who without
their assistance and watchful eye, Mom would not have been able to
remain in her home for as long as she did. Our family will be forever
grateful to you both. The family also wishes to thank Dr. Diane
Edmonds who always took good care of Mom and even made house calls.
Also, a special thank you to the Palliative Care Team, Dr. McNally,
Dr. Gowan and Kim who helped Mom through the process for Medical
Assistance in Dying (MAiD). She was truly grateful. Mom has requested
no visitation or funeral. Arrangements are under the direction of the
R.A. Corkum Funeral Home, Wileville, where on-line condolences may be
made by visiting www.corkumfuneralhome.ca. Memorial donations can be made to the
South Shore Regional Hospital, charity of your choice or plant a
flower in your garden in memory of her. A celebration of life will
take place in her home/yard, on Sunday, July 26 from 1:00 –
4:00 at 41 Bell Avenue, Hebbville, while complying with COVID -19
public health measures. A private graveside burial will be held on a
future date.
« There are no goodbyes,
wherever you are, you will always be in our hearts »
