It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Jean Niblett (Mattock) in Leduc, Alberta at the young age of 66 years. After a brief stay in the Leduc Community Hospital, she slipped away peacefully surrounded by her loving husband of 48 years, Pat, and her two children, daughter Ann (Gord from Prince George), and son Jon (Laura from Leduc).
Jean and Pat were married young and had their family early. They moved from Edmonton to Redwater and raised their kids in this little community. Jean worked hard as a devoted mother, then juggled a full-time job as a production accountant in the oil patch, and volunteer for many organizations. When they both retired in 2011, they moved to Leduc. Jean’s love of travel continued, and they filled their photo albums with many more memories from every corner of the world.
Jean always had the brightest smile and most joyous laugh in any room. She made every outing into an adventure. Her greatest loves were her three grandchildren and she made them feel so loved and spoiled with all the time spent devoted to their happiness. Brynn, Griffin, and Jack will miss their special Grandma Jean.
She had a deep connection to her big family and circle of friends. Jean was a supportive and helpful daughter to Helen & Ab Mattock, a loving and generous sibling to 8 sisters and 4 brothers (one predeceased) and their spouses, an awesome in-law to Pat’s side of the family, and ‘the favorite aunt’ to numerous nieces and nephews and beyond. Her many friends loved her spirit and positive outlook, and she will be fondly remembered for her sense of humor and ‘up for anything’ attitude.
She battled breast cancer in 2016 and she was grateful for more life to live. In the last three years she did what she loved: spending time with family, traveling on a few big trips, reading, and quilting. The new diagnosis in November 2019 was devastating but she never complained and was optimistic until the end. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Cross Cancer Institute in Edmonton as she was thankful for the care she received there.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 14th at the Best Western Denham Inn in Leduc. There will be an open house in the Marquis Room between the hours of 1:00-4:00 pm with some light food and coffee/tea. Everyone is welcome to come and share stories of Jean’s amazing spirit.
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Lynda Jean Niblett March 9 2020..
