MEILLEUR, Lorraine (née Black)
It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of an extraordinary woman on Friday, June 12, 2020. Lorraine was in her 97th year and up until the time of her passing, she lived independently at home and was in good spirits. Born in Sudbury to parents John William Drysdale Black and Marie Blanche (née Ranger) Black, Lorraine grew up with sisters Jacqueline (Jackie) Yasko and the late Marie Leblanc and Pauline Orendorff. In 1944, as the Second World War was turning towards victory, Lorraine then aged 21, applied to nursing school even though her father thought it “too rough”. She later fell in love and married Frederick Meilleur who predeceased her in 1997. She continued her nursing career while raising six children: Barbara (Joseph Fiannaca), the late John (Nicole Bouillon), Monique Lovett (Wayne Lovett), Thomas (Katherine Lain), Maureen (Claude Beaudry) and Maurice. Cherished grandmother of Natalie, Jean-Marc, Vincent (deceased), Alex, Jackson, Adam, Shaya, Jordan, Joshua, Ayden, Marc and Josée. She will be missed by all who knew her, especially by her sister-in-law and best friend Irene Dugas. She was also greatly loved by her many nieces and nephews. In keeping with her wishes, there will be no visitation. Due to the current pandemic, a memorial Mass will be held at Christ the King Church at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to Lorraine’s favorite charities The Canadian Red Cross or The Salvation Army would be appreciated.
