Obituary
It is with heavy hearts we announce that Lori Katherine Christensen, 60 years old of Geraldton, passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on December 3rd, 2020 after a battle with cancer.
She will be lovingly remembered by her husband Kevin Loder and their dog Thora, mother Maizie (May) Christensen, sister Rena Christensen, nieces Christen Goulet (husband Steve, children James and Lily), Ashley Ferguson (sons Max and Mason) and nephew Matthew Bishop, cousin John Magee along with the many other cousins and friends who she loved like brothers and sisters. She was predeceased by her father Lorne (Lawrence), who we know has been by her side all along.
Lori was born in Geraldton to loving parents Lorne (Lawrence) and Maizie (May) Christensen. She was blessed with the sister she always wished for, Rena, at the age of 8 and grew up with a lively and close-knit extended family. She made friends through elementary and high school who she remained close with her entire life. She attended Confederation College and enjoyed careers as an entrepreneur and restauranteur before attending Lakehead University for her degree in her calling, Social Work. Lori “staked her claim” on her husband Kevin, a prospector, and together they enjoyed a life of love and adventures in nature with their extremely fortunate dogs, Blackie, Thor and Thora. Lori touched many lives with her kindness, generosity and hospitality. There was nothing she valued more than time spent with family and friends. She could always be relied on, gave without taking and listened without judging. She had a sense of humour like no one else and she taught us all how a rainy day at the beach was better than none.
The family will be forever grateful to those friends and family who gave their love and support through her difficult illness and the medical team who she trusted to care for her. When Lori chose to undergo treatment for her cancer, she said “I don’t care about the side effects. If I get to spend one more day here with you people, it’s worth it.” She fought like only Lori could, but walked into her dad’s arms peacefully.
A Celebration of Life will be held in June of 2021. The family can be reached for more details closer to the date. Memorial donations can be made to Tamarack House in Thunder Bay.
