Obituary
It is with great sadness that the family of Leo Larre announce his passing on Monday, Nov. 2, 2020 at the age of 90 years at his residence in Lloydminster, SK. Dad was born on the Larre family farm on Aug. 27, 1930 to parents Jean Baptiste and Marie (Puech) Larre. He grew up in a very busy home being the second youngest of 13 siblings. Dad was never fond of school, but did attend until Grade 8. This did not slow him down as he had many successful businesses in his lifetime. He took great pride in living and farming on the Larre family homestead. Just prior to leaving the farm in 1999 Mom and Dad purchased several rental properties which kept them busy fixing and repairing and meeting many interesting people. Dad had many other small businesses that continued into his retirement and some right up until his passing. He owned and operated Leo’s Septic Tank Service, Leo’s Laundromat and later on a steam truck for the oilfield. He was a windshield repair “specialist” and he would weld and sell unique metal lawn ornaments. Dad then started to make sausage to sell at Farmer’s Markets. Soon “Uncle Leo’s Homemade Sausage” went on the road and was sold at many events in the surrounding communities. This was the business he enjoyed the most as it involved the whole family and he recruited the help of many special relatives. He took great pride in people recognizing him downtown as “Uncle Leo the sausage guy!” His favourite reply would then be “I bet you never met the famous Colonel Sanders?” as he grinned from ear to ear. We had many hours of fun but soon found out it was a job that you could never get fired from no matter how hard you tried. Fun for Dad was meeting new people, buying items low and selling them for high, measuring and recording rainfall amounts, visiting for hours on the phone, and selling fish,. Even when in the hospital he was more interested in making a “fish deal” instead of worrying about his own health. Dad loved riding his scooter and was seen by many as he cruised all over Lloydminster. He considered it a challenge to see how far he could ride it before the battery would run out which resulted in him having to be rescued several times. He made many friends at his morning coffee at the Lloyd Mall, lunches at Arbys and daily ice cream at McDonalds. He also loved talking politics with anyone who was up for a challenging discussion. In 1963 Leo married Rose Reinert. They worked very hard side by side until Mom’s passing in 2004. They did take some time to enjoy travelling, going to auction sales and spending time with family. They were blessed with 5 daughters, Rosemarie (Larry) Hemmelgarn and their daughters Janelle, Joelle and Jillian of St. Walburg; Denise Larre of Red Deer, AB; Joan (Brian) Archinuk and their daughters Jasmine and Jenna of Camrose, AB; Eileen (Colin) Robertson and their sons Jordan, Nicholas and Matthew; Brenda Larre and her daughters Laurin and Chloe of Calgary, AB.
Leo is survived by his sister Marie Simonot of St. Walburg, SK, brother Fr Lucien Larre of Coquitlam, BC, brother in-laws Clement and Leander Reinert of St. Walburg, SK and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
