Joseph (Joe) James Lee, 78, of Chateauguay, Quebec, passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Monday, July 27, after a year-long battle with cancer.
Joe was born in Montreal on January 5, 1942 to Anna Legge (1908-1993) and Joseph William Lee (1908-1993) and was the older brother of Mary (1943-1998) and Pat (Serge). He married Marilyn (Dunn) on September 7, 1963 and was the much-loved father of Joey (Meredith), Janet and David (Sally). Perhaps his proudest role was that of grandpa to Griffin, Owen, Emma Jane, Matthew, Olivia and Samantha.
He worked at Nortel Networks for more than 42 years, retiring in 1999. A life-long resident of Chateauguay, Joe was a dedicated volunteer for more than 60 years with Chateauguay Minor Hockey, initially as a coach and referee, and then as treasurer. He was also involved for several years in Little League Baseball and the Chateauguay Canoe Club. In 2012, Joe was inducted into the Chateauguay Hall of Fame in the Sports/Builder category.
Joe was a firm believer in putting family first, giving back to the community and the value of hard work. He loved hockey, watching the Montreal Canadiens, spending family vacations on the beach in Cape Cod, camping at Blue Haven, playing ball with his beloved dog, Drummer (who passed away at 14 years old in 2017), and spending time with his grandkids — cheering them on in sports, watching their school recitals, chatting via Facetime, and so much more.
Joe/Dad/Grandpa, we miss you so much already. We love you, forever. Rest in peace.
