LaRue « Lou » Douglas Burley
1942-2020
BURLEY, LaRue
(Lou)
December 22, 1942 ~ December 9,
2020
In everything, there is a season, and in every
life, there is a time.
Lou passed away peacefully at
his home in Guelph on Wednesday December 9, 2020 with his
family by his side. He leaves behind his wife and loving friend of 60
years Rita, his 3 children, Kim (Alan), Kelly and Doug, sister in-law
Elizabeth (Betty), nephews Bob (Leslie), Ken (Brandy), Richard
(Spencer), Sean (Tara), great nieces and nephews; Cody, Colton,
Madison, Kurtis, Quinn, Cassidy and Kiersten. He will be
especially missed by his 3 grandchildren: Jeena Marie, Jonah and
Elizabeth. He shared a special bond and relationship with
each one of them.
Predeceased by his parents Cecil and Helen, sister Elizabeth
(Betty) and grandson Aaron.
Born and raised in Belleville, Lou graduated from Loyalist
College and pursued a career in Purchasing Management and Distribution
for many years. Later in life he fulfilled a lifelong goal
and earned his bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science at
the University of Waterloo.
He and Rita began their journey in 1960, they worked
alongside each other with love and friendship as they raised their 3
children. Lou was dedicated to his community coaching both
Belleville minor hockey and lacrosse, sharing his love of sport with
many young people. Lou enjoyed his cottage on Pringle Lake,
and was eager to share his time there with friends and
family. After moving to Scarborough in 1977, he
continued to share his love of hockey and lacrosse through coaching.
While in Scarborough, he and Rita made lifelong friends and enriched
the lives of many. In 1982, after arriving in Guelph, they
quickly added dear friends to their village, who have provided
support, care and concern over these past months.
He had a love for nature, being in the woods and walking to
clear his mind. His greatest joy came later in life, with
his grandchildren Jeena Marie, Jonah and Elizabeth. From the horse
barn, to the hockey rink and then to the dance studio, grandpa was
there, he was the best Uber you could get. Never late, always with a
Tim’s treat, and your best cheering section earning him the special
title « Louber ». He lived a life of loving
dedication to family and friends, a man with integrity, values and
empathy for others. We will miss
him.
The family extends heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Potter and
everyone in her office for the very special care of Lou and Rita
always, but especially over the past few months. To the team at LHIN
and Medigas, thank you for your very professional and compassionate
care. It was greatly appreciated. Finally thank you to all
of our friends and neighbours. Your care and concern, help,
advice and company have made our journey easier and we appreciate each
and every one of you.
Respecting Lou’s wishes there will be no visitation, and a
private family burial will take place in Belleville at a later
date. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate
donations to Hospice Wellington (519-836-3921, Victim Services
(519-824-1212) or to the charity of your choice.
Arrangements entrusted to GILCHRIST CHAPEL – McIntyre
