In Loving Memory
With broken hearts we announce the passing of Larry Smet of Delhi , on Thursday, May 21, 2020 at the age of 80, at his home surrounded by his loved ones. Larry will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 57 years, Betty, and their much loved daughter, Michele Ruel (Abe). «Pops» will be especially missed by his grandchildren Matthew Ruel, Rachel Ruel (Matt) and Ryan Ruel, who were his pride and joy. He is survived by his brothers, Eddy (Zorka) of London and Mitchell (Nicole) and family of Sudbury . Larry was predeceased by his parents, Leon (1993) & Gabrielle (1990). Born in Beveren Waas , Belgium , Larry and his parents immigrated to Canada when Larry was a young boy. They settled in the Delhi area where Larry met and married Betty. He and Betty share grew tobacco for many years before moving on to different career paths. Larry later worked as a service advisor at Blue Star Ford in Delhi and then completed his career at the Simcoe location. Larry was community minded and a member of the Waterford Lions Club for numerous years. A special thank you to all the professionals, especially the oncology unit at the Brantford General Hospital , who provided outstanding care to Larry over the years. Special thanks to nurse Carolyn and all the other home care staff. A heartfelt thank you to all the dear friends and neighbours for visits, acts of kindness and ongoing support. Honouring Larry’s wishes, and in consideration of the continuing health & safety of our friends & family, a Private Family Funeral Service will be held with Inurnment in Delhi Cemetery.
