Obituary
Karon La Von Giesbrecht passed away on the morning of July 28, 2020 at the Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge, Alberta. She is survived by her children, Owen (Susan) Coaldale, AB; Sarah (Len) Fosterville, NB; Chad (Jill) Mudge Island, BC; Margaret, Port Alberni, BC. Her grandchildren: Althea (Kylan) Cardston, AB; Ashley – Grand Prairie, AB; Rachel (Ryan) Nanaimo, BC; Jesse – Coaldale, AB; Makayla -Victoria, BC; Jessica – Norton, NB; Paige – Duncan, BC: Kayden – Mudge Island, BC; Gerhardt – Coaldale, AB; Koel – Port Alberni, BC and several great grandchildren. She is also survived by her two sisters, Darlene Woo and Sharon Mudge, both of Lethbridge, AB.
Karon was pre-deceased by her loving husband of 51 years, Klaas, her daughter, Christina, her parents, Ruby and Charles, as well as her sister Joy, and brothers, Howard, and Earl.
Karon La Von Logan was born and raised in Lethbridge, AB and this is where she met and married the love of her life, Klaas Giesbrecht, they were married on July 13, 1963. They remained lovingly married until Klaas passed on October 13, 2014, with his wife by his side.
Karon and Klaas lived in many parts of Alberta but they spent most of their married life in Port Alberni, BC where they resided for over 40 years, before returning to Lethbridge in 2012. Karon was known for being a homemaker with many skills. She was a great baker, loved cooking large family suppers, was a gifted crafter who could sew, crochet, knit, make quilts and more. She spent her life taking opportunities to serve others. She loved the holidays and decorated for them all. She was particularly fond of her nativity scenes and Christmas. She truly found joy in making the holidays special. She spent most of her life caring for children, whether they were her own, grandchildren, daycare, or foster children, she influenced the lives of hundreds of children. Her heart was large and open, and she is lovingly remembered by many. Karon always made friends wherever she went.
To know Karon was to know a woman who liked to share her talents, who gave love to those around her, and would always set another plate at the table for family, friends, acquaintances and even strangers. Throughout her life, her spirituality and faith in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, helped guide her. She held strong to her beliefs and always knew she would be by the side of her beloved husband again. To know Karon was to love her, she always had a laugh or a smile and a big hug. One of the hardest things for her in the past few months was not being able to hug people and shake hands while in isolation.
The family would like to thank the staff on 3C of the Chinook Regional Hospital who provided excellent and compassionate care during her final days. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you donate to your favourite charity in your community. Her remains will be cremated at Evergreen Cremation Services.
The family will be having a small service to honour and remember our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.
