Joyce’s Obituary
Joyce Goodyear had a larger than life personality. She kept us guessing to the end, passing quickly with little or no stir at the Long Term Care facility in Corner Brook Thursday evening, July 9th, 2020. She was predeceased by her husband Don Goodyear and leaves to mourn two daughters: Linda Lou Goodyear of St. John’s, NL, and Sharon (Tom) Panuska of Port St. Lucie, Florida.
Joyce originally hails from a large Sparkes family: Two sisters, Mae and Margo, as well as a brother Derek (wife Judy), who are still with us. Sisters, Greta, and Jean, along with brothers Sidney, Willoughby, and Harry, who are not. Her mother was Edith (nee Laing) and her father was Hayward Sparkes both from Bonne Bay. “Hays,” as he was affably known, was famous for saying, “If my crowd was German, they’d have won the war.”
Keep the stories coming! Given that we now live in a virtual world, contending with funerals around COVID -19, if you have interesting anecdotes about my Mother, please share the moment with me: 709-746-7700 to leave a message or lgoodyear@nf.aibn.com to send an email. Condolences also may be put online to www.country-haven.ca Please, all in lieu of flowers or donations. A Memorial service and interment will follow at a later date.
I would like to thank the Lohnes Complex in Curling and the extensive Raspberry Unit team, for the care during her later more challenging years. Her physician Dr. Tim Griffin deserves commendation for his unwavering patience, as well as her gracious advisors at Todd White & Associates. Finally, I want to send kudos to my Mom for working the front lines of Western Memorial Hospital and O’Connell Centre for most of her career-long before fighting viruses was a focus.
“Dear Mom, I get it now.”
