Joseph Stanslaus Sears
March 24, 1932 – January 24, 2020
On Friday, January 24th, 2020 at 7:23 a.m., the beautiful, selfless heart of Joseph S. Sears made its final beat. He left this world surrounded by his son, daughter and grandchildren, feeling only love and peace. His soul was carried away to heaven in the arms of angels to be reunited with the love of his life, Catherine ‘Kack’ Kearsey. Joe was also predeceased by his parents Peter and Annie (nee White) Sears; brothers William, John, Raymond, Jim, Ronny, Danny, Francis, Edward and Peter; sisters: Mary and Elizabeth; and his twin grandsons Michael and Nicholas.
Leaving to mourn with countless fond and loving memories, his devoted children: Todd (Wanda), Heather King (Doug) and Colleen; grandchildren: Kayla Wells (Michael), Rebecca (Brandon), Katie, Joey (Kristen) and his mini-me and dance partner Abby King; great-grandchildren: Brianna, Carson, Meadow and Alexander; brothers: Gerald and Doug; sisters: Eleanor Vatcher (Eddie), Shirley Street and Doreen English; his four-legged buddy Gracen “Puss”; as well as a large circle of family and friends from church and the B.I.S.
Joe was passionate about physical fitness and began weightlifting at the tender age of 13. He worked for the City of St. John’s his entire adult life. He rowed in the St. John’s Royal Regatta from his youth into his mid 60s. He was a devoted member of the B.I.S, enjoying dances and games of darts with countless friends, whom were blessed with his fun-loving sense of humour and the joy he brought wherever he went.
Special thanks to Dr. Susan Fagan and the team at CCU, Dr. Stephen Major and Dr. Rebecca Small for the wonderful care and compassion provided to our Dad.
Resting at Caul’s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road, with visitation on Thursday from 12 noon – 9 p.m. and Friday from 10 a.m. – 9 p.m. Funeral Mass to take place on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at 9:30 a.m. from the Basilica of St. John the Baptist. Cremation to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
The beautiful irony is that our loss is the reunion of souls in heaven, as he finally reunites with his beloved Kack and grandchildren. His family will forever carry on his legacy of being humble and finding laughter and joy in every breathing moment on this earth.
May he Rest in Peace eternally.
