Joseph Gerard Browne 2020

Joseph Gerard Browne
June 04, 1939 – June 03, 2020

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts we announce that at the age of 80 years, Joseph Gerard Browne entered into eternal peace on Wednesday evening June 3rd at the Health Sciences Center. “Joe” passed peacefully away with his loving wife Jean and sons Christopher and Stephen at his side to send him with comfort and love on his next journey. Joe passed three hours before his 81st birthday and two months before his 50th wedding anniversary.
Predeceased by parents John and Ellen Browne, brothers Edward (Doreen), William, Patrick, John and sisters Francis, Mary, Patricia and members of his in-laws the Walsh family.
Leaving to mourn with loving, fond and happy memories his wife and soulmate Jean of 49 years, sons Christopher (Jennifer) and Stephen. His beloved and cherished grandchildren Reegan, Jarod, Liam and Addison, his best friend and sister Barbara Mason (Harold) who he loved dearly and who always brought the biggest smile to his face.
Also leaving to mourn sister and brother in-laws Kay Browne, Eileen Browne, Lorne Hynes, Joan Hutchings (Frank), Margaret Blake (Ben) ON, Barbara Peach, Sandra Hiscock (John Cox), Marilyn Thornley (Nigel) NS, Beverley Oraschuk (Chris) ON, Jim Walsh (Marie), David Walsh (Marilyn), and many wonderful and loved nieces and nephews.
Joe had a love of sports and was an avid athlete playing baseball, hockey and specifically “football” (don’t let him hear you call it “soccer”) and is a recent inductee into the Newfoundland and Labrador Soccer Association Hall of Fame. He had a huge circle of friends especially from his ice and roller skating days and countless teammates from the sports he played over the years. Go St. Pats go, Green and Gold!! Joe was most at home on a soccer field and on the floor or ice at the Memorial Stadium roller skating or ice skating. His favorite pastimes were fishing with his brothers and walking all over the city with his dog Boomer.
Joe was a friend to all who knew him. He always made the time to stop and say hello and was always there to lend a hand and make someone laugh. Joe loved to have a good time whether dancing a jig, listening to his Roy Orbison or attending his grand children’s many sports and school events. Most of all Joe was an honest and pure gentleman. He was strong in his faith, and always put his family first. Joe was a loving husband, father, grandfather, teammate and friend. His smile and laughter will be missed dearly by all that knew him.
Special thanks go to the staff of the Day Program at the St. Luke’s Home, the nurses at the Health Sciences Center Emergency Room and floor 4 North B for their care and kindness in Joe’s last few days, especially to Lauren Bowering who came to Joe as a homecare worker but became much more than that to him and his family over the last year. Thank you, Lauren.
