John Stanley Kernot 1928 2020

OBITUARIES
John (Stanley) Kernot
1928 – 2020
With heavy hearts, the family of John Kernot announce his passing on May 28, 2020
Dad was one of 11 children born to John Kernot Sr. and Anastasia Grabowiecki on August 26, 1928 in Sylvan, Manitoba.
Dad was husband to Patricia (Cherepak); father to daughters; Brenda MacLennan, Darlene (Dan Hauck d.2000) and Joanne (Keith Single); Papa to Megan (Tobin Shipp), Johnathon (Anastasia Muir), Kerilynn MacLennan, Alanna and Matthew Single; Great Grandpa to Kendall, Rhett, Brylee Shipp and Kinzley, Ryder, and Gage Muir. John also leaves behind his sister Katherine Cullen in Kelowna, BC., brother Sam Kernot in Calgary, AB., and many nieces and nephews.
The last few years Dad lived with dementia and this past February he was diagnosed with esophageal cancer. We were fortunate to have the last few months to share with him.
Dad worked over 25 years at Canada Safeway and took an early retirement at 60 years young. Dad worked hard all his life and he passed on his legacy of the importance of hard work to all of us. He bought property out in Beaconia, MB., where he and mom built a cabin. Over a span of twenty years at the cabin, many memories were made with family and friends. Dad spent most of his time out at the Dacha picking wild blueberries and mushrooms in the Belair Forest. He would spend hours maintaining his yard and caring for his enormous garden. He was always proud to have fresh baby potatoes by July.
Dad loved to take his family out for lunch or supper. Whether it was one-on-one lunches or big family suppers, we made many trips to his favourite places such as Salisbury House, A&W, Cottage Bakery or out for Chinese Food. Staff always knew dad as Stanley and they would greet him with a big “Hello Stanley!” whenever he entered. Dad loved to cook; he was famous for his huge breakfasts at the cabin, pinching perogies with mom or family fish fries.
Dad loved his daughters equally and with all his heart. He was always there to replace, repair, or build whatever needed to be done. Once grandkids were in the picture, he would always make a point of taking the time to watch them play baseball, basketball, hockey, or football. Nothing brought more joy to Dad than playing his harmonica with the great grandkids singing and dancing along.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Lighthouse Mission or Main Street Project.
A private family service will be held on Friday, June 5, 2020.
YOU WILL ALWAYS BE OUR SUNSHINE

Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de John Stanley Kernot 1928 2020..
