Obituary
John H. Wieler of MacGregor, MB, formerly of Austin, MB, passed away peacefully at the Portage District General Hospital on Thursday, October 22, 2020 at the age of 92 years, 5 months and 17 days.
Dad was born on May 5, 1928, in Rosengart, MB, to Henry & Elizabeth Wieler (nee Nikkel). He was the oldest of 13 children.
He and his siblings grew up in the years when times were hard and money was scarce, but love was abundant.
He met our mother, Tena Giesbrecht, at catechism class in 1949 and they married in Graysville, MB on May 21,1950.
They lived most of their married life in and around the Austin area, and formed many long-lasting relationships there.
This union lasted 61 years, with its shares of ups, a few downs and lots of challenges.
They raised nine children and lived in many different homes: three of which he built mostly by himself. Dad worked hard all his life and never shied away from challenges. He used his talents in many different areas: welding, mechanics, farming, woodworking, trucking, manufacturing, owning a grocery store with post office, and buying and selling machinery. Mom and dad enjoyed their road trips together and traveling down south in the winter when they retired.
A few years after mom’s passing, Dad again found love and more reason for enjoying life, when he met and married Mary Brown from Wetaskiwin, AB. They travelled west a few times visiting friends and family. Life was good and they were happy.
Dad was a praying man, living his life for Jesus and sharing God’s love whenever there was opportunity. He had a passion for missions and working at, as well as providing funds for children to go to Valley View Bible Camp (formerly Carberry Bible Camp).
Dad was predeceased by: His first wife Tena (nee Giesbrecht) in 2011, son Wayne in 2009, 2 granddaughters in infancy, one brother Peter in 2020, and numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Dad is survived by: Wife Mary, 3 sons Dennis, David & Darrell, 5 daughters Kathy, Sally, Betty, Marlene, & Sandra, 24 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren (plus spouses): 6 brothers Henry, Jake, Neil, Tony, Abe & Bill, 5 sisters Katherine, Elizabeth, Mary, Esther, Edna: several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and 5 step children.
We miss you Dad. A life well lived.
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de John H Wieler May 5 1928 October 22 2020 (age 92)..
