Jerry Miller
Peacefully, on Monday, September 28, 2020, at the age of 86. Beloved husband of Mary Home Miller for fifty-three years. Cherished father and father-in-law of Michael Miller, Lisa Miller and Marc Yedid. Adored “Papa Jerry” of Rebecca and Benjamin Yedid. Born to the late Moshe Miller and the late Dora Mayerovitch, he spent his early childhood in Ste-Jovite, Quebec where his father and uncle Nathan ran a family-owned clothing store bearing his father’s name (Maison Moise). As a young child, he moved to Montreal where he lived and grew up with his dear cousin Shirley Corn and her family while attending Talmud Torah / Herzliah and Strathcona schools. Jerry earned a degree in Architecture from McGill University in 1957 and a Master’s Degree in Urban Design from Harvard University in 1963. During his 37-year career as an architect, Jerry was involved in the design of many notable projects in Montreal and abroad, including the Beaver Lake Pavilion on Mount-Royal, the Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier concert Hall at Place des Arts and the McGill University Sports Complex. He belonged to a small group of architects responsible for the design and implementation of the master plan for Expo ’67. He was also involved in the design and construction of the Churchill Falls townsite and was selected for the re-design of the Canadian Embassy in Paris. Later in his career, Jerry developed expertise in the design of MRI and long-term care facilities for various major hospitals in Montreal and served for many years as a member and chairman of the Westmount Planning Advisory Committee. In addition to his passion for architecture and design which he loved to share with his family, Jerry’s intellectual curiosity made him an avid reader who always enjoyed engaging in lively and thoughtful discussions. He derived tremendous joy from travelling with his wife, Mary, and from spending time and sharing in the accomplishments of his children and two grandchildren whom he adored. He will be remembered for his unassuming and kind manner which endeared him to all those who knew him. The family extends very special thanks to Dr. George Zogopoulos, Dr. Suri and Dr. Liane Feldman for their exceptional care, guidance and compassion, as well as to all the doctors, nurses and staff at the Cedar’s Cancer Center and the Intensive Care Unit of the Royal Victoria Hospital. A private graveside service will take place on Wednesday, September 30. Donations in Jerry’s memory may be made to the Quebec Pancreas Cancer Study c/o McGill University – Quebec Pancreas Cancer Study at cancerpancreas.ca/EN/WAYS-TO-GIVE.php
