Jennifer Bayer Atton passed quietly at home in Frost Fish Cove the evening of May 15th, 2020 after just becoming acquainted with the absurdity and lunacy of cancer.
She was the daughter of the late Frederick James Bayer and Evelyn Sinclair (Walsh) Bayer. Most of Jennifer’s life was spent exploring the nooks and crannies of St. Margaret’s Bay, once remarking “I’m a long-rooted carrot”.
Jennifer was happiest near the ocean, in the garden, and when she was beside her beloved Freddie. Freddie and Jenn were constant companions for almost eight years after he came to her through rescue by Jade in Newfoundland & Labrador.
Together, they spent many days basking in the warmth and peace of “the little house on the hill” among Jennifer’s many gardens and treasures. On warm evenings, you would have seen Jenn hop in the truck in search of her perfect saltwater swim or sunset over Peggy’s Cove.
Jennifer is survived by sisters, Sandra Wall (David); Jane (Kjell-Rune); nieces and nephews Geoff, Hanna, Julie, Margot, Nicky, Patrick, Josh, and Lotie, as well as many great nieces and nephews.
Jennifer is pre-deceased by her husband Michael Atton (MFA), brother Ronald Bayer, and nephew Christopher Wall.
Jenn’s memory and musings will carry on in her extended Atton Family and her close friends from The Bay and beyond. She often thought of friends and colleagues in the insurance business from her time in the industry.
We would like to express our absolute gratitude to those who helped bring Jennifer and her family comfort and support during the final week. Particularly, Dr. Anne Marie Krueger-Naug, and Claire Morton from the Palliative Care Unit, and Patrick, Breanna, and Maureen from VON. We will never forget your compassion and the time you spent by our side. We would also like to thank Dr. Ha for allowing Jennifer to live day by day.
Jennifer and Michael will join Jennifer’s family, the one Michael had grown to call his own, at a quiet service in Summerside, Prince Edward Island, at a later date.
At Jenn’s request, a small seaside picnic with family and close friends will be held in her memory sometime this summer.
To honour Jennifer’s love of animals, and especially Freddie, a memorial fund has been established at the Happy Valley Goose Bay SPCA (HVGBspca.com).
