Obituary
It’s with broken hearts we announce the passing of James Roy Diachuk on April 19th, 2020 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Jim was born on November 25, 1953 in Vegreville, Alberta. Growing up as a child in Vegreville life was simple and his parents, relatives, and friends constantly surrounded him with love and laughter. Jim was always loved and adored by so many and this continued through his entire life as he transitioned into adulthood. Everyone who knew Jim absolutely loved and adored his quick-wit and fun-loving personality. These attributes contributed to his long and very successful sales career in Edmonton and then Kelowna.
Jim was predeceased by his father Alec, his mother Verna, his brother Ron, and Candy, the mother of two of his daughters. He is survived by his loving and supportive wife Callista Diachuk, his eldest daughter Christy Baker and her family (Jason, Addyson, Khloe, and Kaiya), his daughter Carla Grohn and family (Sonny and Lilly), his daughter and her husband Nadine and Jordan Rawcliffe, his two sons by extension Wayne and Chad McGill and their son and his grandson Grayson McGill, his youngest brother Gerry Diachuk and family (Lori, and Gaby), his sister-in-law Dale Diachuk and family (Steven, Alan, and Kathy), his brother-in-law Kirk Gilchrist and family (Jo-anne and Chris), along with numerous cousins and dear friends.
In Jim’s younger years he loved to both play and watch hockey and it was a big source of pride for him. Later in life Jim utilized his hockey skills to both coach and manage several of his daughter’s ringette teams leading them to victory on more than one occasion. As life transitioned and his family aged his interests altered to golf and wine. Jim loved to learn about various wine regions and he himself visited almost all North American wine regions sampling and learning. His friends and family benefited from the beautiful bottles he would bring to all of us to share and these moments created memories that will last a lifetime.
His last passion was golf and he did not hesitate to challenge any course. It didn’t matter to him if you were an avid golfer or a beginner his primary goal was to ensure everyone was having a good time and enjoying themselves. Anyone who knew Jim knew him as a loving, personable, charismatic, adventurous, and humorous man. Whether he was skunking you at a game of crib, playing a goofy prank, traveling to some new location or adventure, he was always happy to experience everything this world had to offer.
His life was not without adversity, but he managed to navigate all of it so gracefully with a smile on his face. Jim was telling jokes and laughing until his final hours. His wit and humor will act as his legacy and will remain with all of us to hold and share for decades to come.
As Jim would say, ‘Cheerio, until we meet again’.
