James Haliburton « Jim » Hoyt
—93 of Centreville, Kings County passed away Wednesday,
November 18, 2020 in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in
Middleton, he was a son of the late Charles and Mabel (Brown) Hoyt.
After his marriage to June in September 1949, he resided in Ontario
raising his family and was a member of the Toastmasters Club and
Kinsman Club. He was involved in retail businesses during the 25 years
in Ontario and operated his own grocery store in Stirling for 2 years
before returning to NS in 1972. He made his home in Centreville for
the past 48 years. Upon arriving in Centreville, Jim operated the
Riteway grocery store for 5 years and then went on to run a variety
store with furniture, a Frenchys outlet and wood stove business until
retirement. Jim was actively involved in the community being a member
of the Centreville Community Development Association. He regularly
attended the Centreville Baptist Church. Jim really enjoyed taking
part in the 50 Plus Club on Wednesday afternoons until Covid-19 put an
end to that this past Spring.
He is survived by his wife, June (Strong);
daughters, Dianne (« Bud ») Murdock, Cornwall, ON; Susan (Teo)
Boers, Trenton, ON; Barbara (Greg) Whitney, Halls Harbour; Sharon
(Kevin) Keizer, Centreville; sister, Kathleen « Kay »,
California; brother, William, Stoney Plain, AB; nine grandchildren and
13 great-grandchildren and 4
great-great-granddaughters.
He was predeceased by his son, Steven and a
sister, Marjorie Baker. A private family service will be held at a
later date. Donations in memory may be made to Heart and
Stroke Foundation or Canadian Cancer Society. Funeral arrangements
have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation
Services, Kentville.
