Jacques Pujos-Michel
Apr 18, 1937 – Jun 29, 2020
Jacques Claude Pujos-Michel, age 83, passed away at his home in Banff, Alberta. He was born in Bordeaux, France to Jacques Jules and Irène (Pérez) Pujos-Michel, being the third youngest of nine children. After serving his country in the French Army for three years, he went on to attend culinary school in Bordeaux.
Jacques then voyaged by sea to Canada to work at the Château Frontenac in Quebec City, where he would meet his future wife, Cindy. The two then traveled by train to Banff, Alberta where they would settle down and later marry in 1965. Jacques first worked as a chef at the Banff Springs Hotel in the summers and managed, and lived, at the Mount Norquay Lodge in the winters. He then moved on to work at a number of different restaurants in Banff, including the Paris Restaurant, Voyager Inn, Caboose Restaurant, Banff Park Lodge, Mount Royal Hotel, and finished his career as the Executive Chef at the Rimrock Resort Hotel in 2000.
Jacques would always be happy to inform you of France’s accomplishments; either in rugby, soccer, cheese, or wine. He had a great sense of humour and always had a smile on his face. Jacques was French to the core but always deeply proud to be a resident of Banff and a Canadian citizen. In his younger days, he enjoyed fishing, hiking, and cross country skiing throughout the park, and used to walk Vermillion Lakes every morning in his later years.
Jacques is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Cindy; sons, Greg and Jason (Gillian); 6 grandchildren; Ciara, Mayev, Taylor, Rhegan, Ellie, and Maxwell. He was predeceased by his first son, David. He is also survived by his brother, Serge; and sisters, Eliane (Di Giorgio) and Pierrette (Yovitchitch) in France.
There will not be a memorial service held at this time.
