It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather Ivan Malytsky, who passed away on May 11, 2020. He left behind his grieving wife Nadiya (nee Bobownyk), daughters Iryna & Olha, sons-in-law Oleg Hursky & Orest Dovhanyk, his granddaughters Nadiya Stadnytska and Oksana Rewa, grandsons Rostyk & Ihor Hursky, as well as grandchildren Victoria, Yaro, Antony, Andrew, Sophia and Gregory and extended family in both Canada & Ukraine.
Ivan Malytsky was born on September 7, 1928 in Remeniv Village, Lviv Region to the family of Stephan & Ksenia Malystsky. He was the only child, who deeply respected his parents and always helped them to manage their household. He went to Lviv Teacher’s College, as well as Lviv Institute of Agriculture. He worked as a School History Teacher and later, as an Installer at the Lviv Plant of Telegraphic Equipment. In 1953, he married Nadiya Bobownyk and remained happily married to her for 67 years, having raised two daughters, four grandchildren and the oldest great-granddaughter Sophia. His children and grandchildren loved him dearly for his patience and dedication to them, as well as for his self-sacrificing nature and an extraordinary sense of humor. There was nothing he wouldn’t do for them. Therefore, in 1995, after he retired and buried his elderly parents, he immigrated to Canada with his wife to be close to his children & grandchildren. Although it was difficult for him to leave his Motherland Ukraine, his children & family always mattered most. “Wherever you guys live is the place for Mother and me”, were his exact words…
Being an amazing father & grandfather, he took great care of his family. He was always in his grandchildren’s lives looking after them, taking them for walks, feeding, as well as entertaining them. Time flew by very quickly, and soon, his grandchildren started bringing their kids to grandfather Ivan. Throughout his 25 years of living in Canada, Ivan Malytsky became good friends with many and managed to build a close relationship with his wife’s family. He always found kind words for everyone and showered people with jokes & funny stories. He was an exemplary parishioner at St. Demetrius Church on LA Rose Ave. He admired and appreciated its Priests and was fond of choir singing. He frequently invited his daughters and sons-in-law to his house for delicious dinners. Even while living at Ivan Franko Home, he continued to make jokes to its employees, took great interest in Politics and enjoyed listening to his children’s stories about their families. The words “Wherever all of you guys live is the place for Mother and me” defined the sense of his life. God, please accept this kind-hearted and devoted Soul of a Family Man into the Place where there is no sorrow but there is Eternal Life.

Ivan was laid to rest at Park Lawn Cemetery on Thursday May 14, 2020.
