Ivan “John” Mrakovcic, 73, of Mississauga, Ontario passed away surrounded by his family on January 15, 2020 suddenly from cancer.
Ivan was born on July 21, 1946 in Vrh (Krk), Croatia. He immigrated to Toronto, Canada in 1972 to follow the love of his life Marica. There they were married. Soon after, they started a family together. Ivan and Marica had two children Danny (Cathy), and Suzana (Andre Dy).
Ivan was a force of nature, determined to provide for his family and give them the life he felt they deserved as a hard working immigrant to Canada. He often mentioned that his family meant more to him than anything else in the world. He and Marica were able to build not one, but two family homes for their family, with their summer home located in their hometown Vrh, on the beautiful island of Krk in Croatia. He enjoyed it yearly up until last summer where he celebrated his 73rd birthday with his grandchildren, extended family, and friends.
Ivan was passionate about his many activities with family and friends. He usually started his day by meeting up with his friends at the community center for his early morning swim. Afterwards, he and his friends would go for their morning coffee at Tim Horton’s. Ivan enjoyed playing Bocce Ball regularly with his friends at the Croatian Park in all types of weather. He and his wife were members of the Croatian Seniors’ Group and were parishioners of the Croatian Martyrs Catholic Church in Mississauga. Most of all, Ivan was the rock for his family, especially to his 3 grandchildren, Anderson, Adelaide, and Olivia.
Anyone who knew Ivan knew that he was the most loving spouse, father, and grandfather a family could ask for. Ivan was predeceased by his father Mate, his mother Antica, his sister Mare Juresic, and brothers Andre and Anton. He is survived by his sisters Marija Baricevic, Jele Brkovic (Risto), Ana Spajic, Karmela Volaric, and Nada Kosic (Srecko). His extended family cherished him.
Ivan was diagnosed with cancer only a month ago, which he learned at the time that it was already in its final stages. The Mrakovcic Family is extremely grateful for the outpouring of support from family, friends, neighbours, and members of the community in recent weeks. The family would also like to thank the team of doctors and nurses at the Credit Valley Hospital, the Palliative Home Care Network and the Ian Anderson House Hospice for their compassionate support through this most difficult time.
Friends may call at the Turner & Porter Peel Chapel, 2180 Hurontario St., Mississauga (Hwy. 10, N. of Q.E.W.), on Sunday, January 19, 2020 from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be at The Church of Croatian Martyrs, 4605 Mississauga Road, on Monday, January 20, 2020 at 10 a.m.
Interment to follow at Assumption Catholic Cemetery.
