Obituary for
Irene Ruscetta
Ruscetta, Irene (nee Bomasuit):
Passed away peacefully after a brief illness on April 18, 2020 in Kitchener, Ontario at the age of 90.
Beloved wife of the late Michael.
Dear mother of Michelle (Frank) Scarpino and Patricia (Tom) Missere.
Cherished Nana of Stephanie (Barry) Prescott, Matthew Scarpino and Aaron Missere and Nanny (Great-grandmother) of Sarah and Natalie Prescott.
Loving sister of the late Angelo (the late Dorothy), Carman (the late Barbara) Bomasuit, Marie (the late Enio) Marinelli, Margaret (Fred) Overholt and Michael (Elizabeth) Bomasuit. Will also be missed by many nieces and nephews.
Irene will be lovingly remembered by her dear friends Marilynne Feeney and Elaine Shayler.
Irene was born and raised in Stratford, Ontario where her family owned and operated Allen’s Fruit Market on Wellington Street. Allen’s Ally which is situated right beside where the store was still stands as a covered walkway. The beautiful hand-painted murals have made it a beautiful historic land-mark in Stratford and namesake to Allen’s Fruit Market. Irene was very proud of her Italian heritage and that the Bomasuit family home served as the first rental accommodations to the many Shakespearean actors performing at the Stratford Festival. She was introduced to hand-making rosaries by her Philipino family and made over 100,000 rosaries which have been dispersed worldwide including Italy, Africa, the Philippines, military bases, palliative care in hospitals and First Communion Programs in Waterloo Region. Irene was a lector and active in church life at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church Stratford . She lived right beside the church and always liked to refer to God as her neighbour. At age 65 she was the proud graduate of Conestoga College with a diploma as an Educational Assistant. She will be deeply missed by many.
Private cremation has taken place. A memorial mass will be held at a late date with interment at Holy Cross Cemetery in Thornhill.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Food Bank of Waterloo Region would be appreciated by the family (cards available at the funeral home).
