It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that we announce the passing of our sweet and cherished mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, sister-in-law, aunt and friend to all, Irene Marion Lawlor whose smile filled all of our hearts and whose presence enriched all lives she touched.
Irene passed away peacefully at Turnbull Nursing Home on December 22, 2020. Nothing prepares us for a loss like this.
Mom or Gramma or Irene or Molly (as she was nicknamed by her wonderful nursing class of 1957) not only had a strong dedication to her own family but was interested in others lives as well. She was a genuine person who saw things clearly with common sense and was always ready to help others. She was never idle and loved to run the roads, always on the go. Years ago with her husband George they did long drives in the countryside and always enjoyed family gatherings. They did everything together before his passing in 2003, always together.
Irene was born in Goshen, New Brunswick on April 21, 1935 the daughter of the late Thomas and Annie Malone. After graduating from Elgin High School she came to Saint John to graduate from Saint Joseph’s School of Nursing in 1957. During that time she met and married the love of her life and constant companion the late George Lawlor. They had 43 beautiful, fun-filled years of marriage. Irene worked for many years as a registered nurse specializing in pediatrics and finishing her career at her beloved Dr. Roberts Hospital School and finally Centracare, retiring in 1995. She volunteered at the music festival annually, Rocmaura Auxiliary, St Malachys musicals and anywhere she was needed ..she would be there! Irene also loved to bake and sew and would show up to see her grandchildren with a big smile, a tin of cookies and a helping hand. She also loved the puppies always by her side.
Her dedication to everyone above self will be her legacy as she radiated warmth and kindness to all. She was generous and loving and always made you feel at home. She had a way of making everyone feel special. She was so understanding and had a smile that could light up a room. Truly an amazing person the sweetest most fun-loving person and a very classy lady. She loved to laugh and gave the greatest hugs. She was a sweetheart who was loved dearly. Irene was also a woman with a very strong faith in God and prayer gave her strength. So many have said she was an angel here on earth. She was modest and very funny with her dry humour. A gentle soul who will be missed terribly.
How blessed we were to have had her in our lives.
Irene was predeceased by her loving husband George Roberts Lawlor in 2003. She will be dearly missed by her family.
Her adoring daughter Ann Robertson, husband Dave, their children George and Jennifer (Jonah). Her son Robert Lawlor, wife Karen their children Robert and Tom wife Ravina with children Lovina, Gavin, Mireya and Veronica. Her son George Lawlor wife Tanya with children Brette (Danielle) and Andrew (Emily). Her son Jim wife Nathalie with children Maddie and Sophie. Along with her parents and husband George, Irene was predeceased by her siblings Warren Malone, Kathleen Long, Leo Malone, Mildred O’Connor, Raymond Malone, Josephine Leblanc, Marie Murphy, James Malone and Elsie McMillan. She leaves behind her sister-in-laws Joan O’Brien and Shirley Lawlor, good friend Inez Kemp and many more close family members and good friends, too many to mention.
Our family would like to extend our thanks to Joy and all the staff at Turnbull Nursing Home where she was cared for with compassion and love. She was only there a short time but was very content despite her deteriorating health and we felt she was in great hands.
