Peacefully at Extendicare Port Hope on Monday April 20, 2020 in her 99th year. Helen Watson, beloved wife of the late Edward “Ted”Fulford . Loving mother of Donna, Andrea, and John and his wife Pam. Predeceased by her infant daughter Diane Margaret. Loving grandmother of Adam (Jimena), Joel (Sara) and Christie. Delighted and adoring great-grandmother of Oliver Joseph and Aaron Edward.
She was a wonderful grandmother to Adam, Joel, and Christie, spending many days and weeks caring for and mentoring them. She always opened her heart and arms to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was the best mother and mother in law you could hope for.
Beloved sister of George Watson, and sister-in-law Barbara Fulford. Pre-deceased by her sisters Dorothy Rowlison and Jean Blignault. Loving aunt to many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews.
During World War 2, she was secretary at the Port Hope Sanitary, and then after that she was secretary at the Port Hope High School for 14 years. She loved her work! She also loved receiving her pension after she retired!
She had a great sense of humour, and enjoyed meeting people. Even when she moved to Extendicare, she enjoyed many of the activities they offered.
Her inadvertent sense of humour also delivered great uproar when she would say things like “that barn does not look very stable” or “ that coffee club really keeps him perking”.
She enjoyed meeting people and she never stopped being curious to learn new things and understand what was going on – we are sure that was one thing which helped her carry on.
She shared her passions and skills with Port Hope United Church even before she retired. For many years she was co-convenor with Fern Mooney of the candy booth, and she made pies for the bake table during the Christmas Fayre. She even won a prize for her apple pie…something that is a tough act to follow!
She was also an expert crimper for the meat and chicken pies that the church sold. She loved to knit and knitted for the family as well as the church.
She had a very positive outlook on life.
The family sends a special thank you to Extendicare Port Hope who made her days there so enjoyable! Their care and compassion created a standard that will be hard to match.”
