It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our wonderful mum, grandmother, great grandmother, auntie & friend. Mum was surrounded by her family with so much love in the room. Our mum was born April 17, 1925 and passed away Friday Oct. 23, 2020 at 10:58 pm. Mum was known as Nannie to all the grandchildren, great grandchildren, as well as, their many friends. She was a source to be reckoned with and was an extremely strong, kind woman. She would give the shirt off her back and opened up her arms to all who knew her.
She leaves behind her children Angela (Gord), Peter (Janice), Joy (Rick), and Jack (Linda), 9 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren & 1 great great grandson. She was predeceased by her husband Bern, parents Frederick & Florence, brothers Ron & Hal and sister Enid and also many cousins who were like brother and sisters to her.
Mum was born in Newport, Wales and was a very proud Welsh woman. She joined the RAF when she was 17 years old and worked in signals doing Morse Code during World War 2. She was stationed in Gloucester and there she met her husband Bern who had come home on leave from the Navy.
Mum and Dad married June 28, 1947 in Cardiff, South Wales and moved to live in Worthing by the seaside. Their first child Angela was born in 1949, followed by Peter born in 1951 and Joy born in 1953. We all immigrated to Canada in June 1956 and resided in North Vancouver. Mum worked many jobs including revenue Canada, grocery stores, Laundromat, book keeping estimator for a flooring company etc. all in order to help provide for a family of new immigrants to Canada. Mum & Dad moved to Squamish in 1981 and opened up Highland Video in 1983. They owned the video store for 18 years. Mum loved Squamish and she would say it is « God’s Country ». She loved her home and friends and enjoyed playing bridge, doing her Sudoku, reading, knitting, music and her church. It was a sad day when she could no longer see enough to do any of these things.
Mum made an impact on all that met her. She will forever be in our hearts and watching over us all.
Goodnight and god bless mum/Nannie.
In lieu of flowers we ask for donations to be made to Squamish Palliative Care or St. John Anglican Church Squamish. Thank you.
Due to Covid restrictions and our concern for the health of our family & friends a service will be held at a later date.
