Angus (Gus) John Elliott passed away peacefully at Georgetown hospital November 25, 2020. He was born to the late Elizabeth (Littlejohn) Elliott and late George Campbell Elliott on February 27, 1941 in London Ontario. He was a loving husband to Peg for 55 years and devoted father to Andrew(Annie) and cherished Grandpa to Chace and Billie Rose Elliott. He will be sadly missed by his sister Grace(Ken) and their son David. Brother-in-law to Bill(Diana) Mara, Peter Mara, Gertrude(Bob) Jones, John Mara, Wanda Mara, Mary(Lyle) Moran , Tom(Tina) Mara, Betty(Dave) Mears, Christine(Orland) Foster, and Kathy(John) Vesterfelt. Predeceased by sisters-in-law Nancy(Detwiler) Mara and Caroline(Wart) Mara and brother-in-law Jim Mara. He will be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. Gus was a dedicated and respected educator for 35 years and will be remembered by many former students and colleagues.
Gus’s mother, Elizabeth was a registered nurse and his father, George was a farmer. They lived on a farm in Iona Station in southwestern Ontario. Gus spent much of his early years with his maternal grandparents on a nearby farm as well as with his aunts and uncles who all had a major influence on his life. After the family moved to London he was thrilled to have a new baby sister, Grace.
He finished elementary and high school in London, then attended London Normal School.
Gus was a dedicated, respected educator, both in northern Ontario and in Halton. He coached sports and organized many extra curricular activities in his schools
Gus was passionate about all sports both as a participant and a spectator particularly basketball, curling, golf and skiing. He handed all these qualities onto his son Andrew.
He married Peggy Mara, his high school sweetheart, in 1965 when they were both teaching in the Sudbury area. They moved to Georgetown in 1967 and have resided here ever since.
In 1974 Andrew arrived to give them their greatest joy and made their family complete. In recent years Andrew, Annie, Chace and Billie Rose have brought Gus a great deal of love and pleasure.
Gus was an active member of his community, a member of St John’s United Church, a Kinsman and delivered Meals on Wheels.
Gus was naturally quiet, had a great sense of humour and was very social. He had a wide circle of interests, a poker club for 30 some years, golf buddies, dinner club, brother in law boat trips, live theatre, Tuesday night dinner and movies with friends and traveling, especially road trips.
“ That man is a success-who has lived well, laughed often and loved much.
who has gained the respect of intelligent men and the love of children,
who has filled his niche and accomplished his task
who leaves the world better then he finds it
who looked for the best in others and gave the best he had.”

Gus’s family would like to thank the St John’s United Church community, LIHN, Doctor Lamptey and Doctor Collie, and Hope and her team. Without them Gus would not have been able to spend the last 2 years at home.
