Gerald William DeLong
1930-2020
It is with heavy hearts, the family of Gerald William DeLong
of Skiff Lake, NB, announces his passing on May 29, 2020.
Gerald was born on October 15, 1930, to Harold and
Hélène (Clavette) in Woodstock, NB. He married
his « sweetie », Winifred Demmings, on June 5, 1959.
Together they raised four children in Florenceville with cherished
summers spent on Merry Isle at Skiff Lake and winters skiing at Big
Rock.
Gerald spent 30 years working at McCain Foods in
Florenceville, both at the plant, and as a crop duster pilot, where he
really left his mark on the neighborhood. Because of his love of
planes, he even spent his vacation time flying on other projects.
After his much-anticipated retirement, Gerald and Wini moved to Skiff
full-time where he very much enjoyed lake life: canoeing, fishing,
4-wheeling, berry picking, and snowmobiling. He was known for dropping
in, visiting friends in the hospital, and often taking the scenic
route home. Gerald’s passion for flying was only surpassed
by the love for his family, especially when all were able to
gather.
In addition to his parents, Gerald was predeceased by his
sister and brother-in-law, Phyllis and Lloyd Drinkwater (Portland,
ME); brother-in-law Dwight Demmings; and by his only son, Gerald
Brian. He is survived by his loving wife Wini; his three daughters
Barbara (Jamie Junger) of Nova Scotia; Meg (Peter) White of
Williamstown, NB; Joanne (Tom Lewis) of Sus; and daughter-in-law
Cathy (Brian) DeLong. And perhaps his greatest delight, nine
grandchildren: Cody (Hannah), Hunter (Bryanna), and Cassidy DeLong;
Sadie Junger; Jordan, Alex, and Mason White; Eli and Griffin Lewis;
and three great-grandchildren: Claire, Theodore, and
Lily.
The family would like to take the opportunity to thank Dr.
Colin Lockhart for many years of support and the staff at the Upper
River Valley Hospital for their care and compassion during the past
month. For those wishing, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to
the charity of the donor’s choice.
May you forever have
blue skies and tail winds.
