Obituary for
George Robert Thiessen
The family of George Thiessen sadly announces his passing September 4th, 2020 at the age of 79. George loved hunting, fishing, camping, gardening and mushroom picking. Sometimes he would pay his daughter Lisa to clean the mushrooms he brought home. She didn’t like the smell but liked the cash! George enjoyed watching the birds from his spot on the couch and if he saw a dandelion on the lawn he would have to go and hoe it down. George also had many discussions about Portulaca in his garden and how to get rid of it. George was a hard-working man. He started his career at a sawmill in Northern Saskatchewan. He was a mechanic, welder, truck driver, and operated equipment of any kind. He could fix everything that he operated. In his spare time George was a Cobbler. We never knew another man with so many shoes! George could repair everything from a pair of sweaty hockey gloves to a swather canvas. Later in life he met his partner Marjorie Hanson and together they started a back-hoe business. They spent many hours working, laughing, and trenching. George always said they were the only ones that could go in and destroy a perfectly good yard and get paid for it! George had many backroad tours in his Nissan truck with Lisa and Kirstin, that he called “spotting for Deer” or “charging the battery”. Lisa remembers her dance lessons, a song would come on the radio George would spin her around the kitchen and he would switch from Polka to Two Step so she would learn to follow his lead. He would spend many weekends with his daughters Kim and Candy, and their families camping at Peepaw. His grandson Michael would stay with him while on summer holidays following Grampa everywhere he went. Sadly, his Son Kenneth passed at an early age. George had 5 children 7 Grandchildren and 5 great Grandchildren George enjoyed brewing his “homemade coffee” which will be missed by many. I am sure he will also be missed every Wednesday at Lorne’s coffee house. George was the youngest of 6 children he was raised and went to school in Swan Plain Saskatchewan, he always said he went right through school “in one door and out the other” George was a character and will be missed by all that know and love him. George leaves behind in loving memory his partner Marjorie Hanson her children Dean, his daughter Kirstin; daughter Tracy her children Brett and Nicole. His daughter: Lisa (Ben) their son Caleb, daughter: Candace (James) their children, Jacey (Trent) Aaron (Liana), Steven (Becca) their children Carter and Kiera, His son-in-Law: Tim, his children Michael (Yukari), Cheryl (Jeff) their children Lillian, Joshua, Jordan. As well as many other family and friends. George was pre-deceased by his parents Helen and Julius, his siblings Lloyd, Wilf, Gerry, Pat, and Lillian. His daughter Kim and son Kenneth, granddaughter Phoenix, and daughter in Law Roxanne.
