Gary’s life was based on his love of faith and
music. He played and sang in many churches from Pubnico to
Dartmouth. As he used to say, «singing is like
praying twice».
A «Rockstar for senior citizens» Gary was
known for playing around Yarmouth with Vic and the boys and local
senior’s homes bringing smiles and lots of laughter and joy
to them.
«Taz» was a Fire Fighter with the Dartmouth
Fire Department for over 30 years. He often brought his
guitar to the station and entertained the guys while they waited for a
call. He loved his job and always reflected of his time fire
fighting with a smile.
Dad’s love of food was an impressive
sight. You never had to worry about leftovers if Gary was
around. As he used to say «I’m batting
clean up» and there was never a plate that wasn’t
cleaned off.
Ever the happy go lucky guy, he had a joke for every
occasion. «Oh very well», groovy and hot damn were
some of his well known sayings. He loved making people laugh
and got such joy from it. His unselfish and caring nature
made you feel like you were his best friend.
Dad had a magical presence every time he donned his suit,
bringing awe and wonder to so many children during his 13 years as
Santa Claus at the MicMac Mall. So many times, he left kids
wondering how he knew their names or what they wanted for
Christmas. But being a father of three kids of his own, he
knew the latest toys, that siblings would fight, and kids would not
eat all of their suppers,
Gary loved going for drives, or as he called it
«freedom riding». It was an adventure
since you never knew where you were going, where you would end up or
even how you were going to get home.
Dad’s whistle was like a calling card. No
matter where you were, if you were looking for him, just listen for
his whistle.
He was a special person to so many especially his children
and family. Our loss will be «the day the music
died».
