Chambers, Frances Thorne (Noble)
October 28th 1931 – December 18th 2020
Passed away peacefully at The Lord Lansdowne Retirement Residence on Friday December 18th 2020. Frances Thorne in her 90th year, beloved wife of the late Fergus James Chambers. Loving mother of Karen Lorraine Chambers and the late Brian Fergus Chambers. Grandmother of Andrew Fergus Poirier, Braeden Jean-Maurice Poirier and Liam Patrick Poirier. Dear sister of the late Mary Lorraine Walter of Saint John New Brunswick. Born in Woodstock New Brunswick, Frances excelled in school and earned a Lord Beaverbrook Scholarship for undergraduate studies at Mount Allison University and graduate studies at the London School of Economics. She worked as an Economist with several Canadian Federal Government agencies before accompanying her husband to Botswana, where he served as an Economic Advisor. After retirement Frances lived in Waterford, Ireland for six years and returned home to Ottawa in 2003 to spend time with her grandchildren. Prior to developing significant health issues she was very involved with the Southminster United Church. Friends may visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street on Wednesday December 23, 2020 from 12noon until time of service in the chapel at 1pm, followed by interment at Beechwood Cemetery. Pursuant to current maximum attendance regulations, please RSVP at www.hpmcgarry.ca (bottom of the obituary page) to pre-register your attendance. Entry will be strictly limited to registered visitors. Attendees are required to wear face masks, and asked to respect and practice social distancing. A special thanks to the Lord Lansdowne caregiving staff for the wonderful care given to Frances over the past few years.
