Emily’s Obituary
Emily passed away peacefully at the Sturgeon Community Hospital at the age of 80 years on March 4, 2020, after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Raised on a farm in the Peace River country, Emily completed her education in Edmonton with a teacher’s certificate and taught school in the Peace River area until marrying her high school crush Robert Stasow in 1960. They farmed together in the Reno area of Peace River. While farming with Robert, Emily also established a legendary reputation as a cake decorator and her services were in much demand. They also took great pride in maintaining an immaculate farmyard and large garden. Many also benefited from Emily’s wonderfully crafted photo and scrapbook albums. In 1995 they retired to St Albert to live in a house designed by Emily, contracted and built by Robert over several preceding years.
She is survived by her husband Robert Stasow who devoted himself to providing loving care to Emily at their home in St Albert until he no longer could after almost 60 years of marriage. Emily is also survived by her brother Nick (Kathryn) Murza, her sister Olive Armstrong, her sister Donna (Jack) Tabor and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her parents William and Katherine Saliwonchuk, Brother Tony Saliwonchuk, Sister in-law Mary Saliwonchuk and Brother-in-law Ralph Armstrong.
The family wish to acknowledge the gentle and compassionate care provided by nurses and staff during Emily’s brief stay at the Sturgeon Community Hospital.
A Funeral Service will take place from Chapel of Memories Funeral Chapel in Peace River on Saturday March 28, 2020 at 11:00 AM, followed by interment at the Little Prairie Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Alzheimer’s Society of Alberta.
