Obituary of Elizabeth Bridget Collins
Elizabeth Bridget Collins (nee Whelan)
June 5, 1939 – December 9, 2020
Bett loved life and she enjoyed every moment she could. She loved reading a good book, eating chocolate (lots of chocolate), cross-country skiing, playing darts (although her skill level was debatable!) and being involved in a multitude of activities at her Church and Senior Citizens Club. She loved having fun. But most of all, she loved her family. We will miss her beyond measure.
She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Karen; her brothers: Stan (Jane), Brendan (Mercy), Kevin (Jocelyn), Jerry (Noreen) and Paul (Elaine); her sisters: Lorraine (Winston), Rosemary, and Ronne; and sister-in-law Elizabeth.
She was predeceased by her husband Raymond (Collie), her brothers Andrew and Joseph, and her parents William and Bridget.
So many people showed their kindness throughout Bett’s journey with Alzheimer’s disease. We were so fortunate to have the support of the Western Health Palliative Care team in Bett’s last few months. We are especially thankful to Michelle King, R.N., and Dr. Kate Lafferty for their invaluable knowledge and guidance; Beulah Wiseman, R.N. for her love and support; and a special thank you to Laura Wiseman, R.N. and Jackie Knee, R.N. for helping to ensure that Bett was comfortable and cared for during her final hours. Her passing was so peaceful, and we know that was possible because of the Palliative Care facility and its people.
Thanks also to the Pasadena Fire Rescue for their support. And a special thank you to Heather Rowsell Gould who made Bett feel so special and so pampered. Your kindness means more than you know.
If you would like to make a donation in Bett’s memory, please consider a contribution to the Western Regional Hospital Foundation, Palliative Care Unit, for a cuddle bed. Having a cuddle bed was such a comfort for us in Bett’s last hours.
Due to government restrictions regarding Covid-19, a private Celebration of Life will be held at Fillatre’s chapel on December 21st. A Catholic service and burial is planned for the summer of 2021.
