Obituary
Elaine went home to her Lord and Saviour on August 3, 2020 after a courageous battle with cancer. Elaine was born in Port Alberni on Jan. 24th, 1959. She was predeceased by her parents, Louise and Leo Werner; son Daryk Penner; brothers, Melvin and Allen Werner. She is survived by her spouse, Michael Fortuner; daughter, Alysha Penner (Dean); granddaughter, Alexandria; grandson, Naethan; siblings, Carol Hamilton (Michael), Ron Werner (Tammy), Bob Werner, Dolleen Werner; chosen brother, Doug Fong (Flora) and sister-in-law Trish Werner. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, friends and colleagues.
Elaine grew up in her home community of Port Alberni, where she met and married Rodger Penner. She was delighted and felt blessed when Alysha and Daryk completed their little family. She later met her spouse Michael in 2006.
Elaine loved children and this was evident in her relationship with her children, nieces, nephews and the children she supported in her EA position with the school district. She also worked at the Transition House for many years.
She was multi talented. Elaine was an amazing artist and she had a beautiful voice. She loved singing at Karaoke and at church.
Elaine had a strong relationship with her Saviour and she looked forward to being reunited with her loved ones in heaven. Her family will greatly miss Elaine and will forever hold her in their hearts.
Due to Covid restrictions, a small family only service will be held on August 15th. There will be an opportunity for family and friends who wish to pay their last respects (closed casket) to do so on August 15th, from 11:00 am to 12 noon at Elim Tabernacle Church located at 3946 Wallace St. Port Alberni. Elaine’s wish was to have family and friends write personal messages on her casket. To uphold Covid regulations, masks and hand sanitizer will be required.
Elaine’s celebration of life service will be lived streamed on Facebook by Yates Memorial Services at 1:00 pm August 15th. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honour Elaines memory may direct a donation to Ty Watson House.
A Memorial Service will be announced after Covid restrictions are lifted.
