DOW, BLAINE
It is with deep sorrow that the family announces the
passing of BLAINE DOW. Blaine passed away at Chinook Regional Hospital on April
24, 2020 at the age of 89 years.
Blaine was born shortly after midnight January 1, 1931. He
was the first New Year’s Baby in Lethbridge area and received a lot of gifts
from the Lethbridge Herald thus the name “Herald Blaine Dow” which he changed
to Blaine. Blaine loved and played hockey for the Shawnessy Cadillacs and
followed hockey throughout the remainder of his life.
Blaine’s passion for rodeos and parades came from attending
a rodeo in Picture Butte as a young man. He was so impressed with the Rodeo
Announcer that he wanted to become a cowboy. This passion led Blaine to take an
Auctioneer course and he graduated from Western College of Auctioneering in
1959. Over time he was an Auctioneer for Lethbridge Stockyards, Taber Livestock,
Lethbridge Co-op Livestock, Hays & Earl Ltd and Lethbridge Central Feeders.
In between Livestock Auctions, Blaine had a weekly show called Kids Bids TV
Show which was very successful and ran for seven years which he was the
Auctioneer. He was also an Announcer for Rodeos and did the Southern Alberta
Roping and Riding Circuit for several years as he loved horses. After Blaine’s
Auctioneer career he went into farm equipment and car sales.
One of the highlights in his life was meeting his movie
star hero, Roy Rogers, which he never forgot. Like he always used to say “I’m
just a small country boy”. Blaine was an active member of the Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter-day Saints and he loved his service in the Temple.
Blaine is survived by his loving wife, Marlene; Sisters,
June and Margaret; Sons Jeff, Dahl (Brenda), Clair (Irene), Dana (Denise); and
grandchildren Gyvanie, Dryden, Clinton, Travis and Ravonna.
