O’Connell, Dorothy Beatrice – It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dorothy (Dottie) O’Connell (78). She went home to be with her Lord and Saviour on December 15, 2020. Dorothy was born in Newellton, on November 13, 1942, to the late Helston and Dorothy (Penney) O’Connell. Dottie resided at The Bayside Home for Special Care for the last 28 years. She is survived by her sisters, Hilda Adams of Shag Harbour, and Frances Bowers of Eagle Head, Queens County; as well as brothers, Robie O’Connell (Catherine) of Clark’s Harbour, Arthur O’Connell (Heather) of Barrington and Rahn O’Connell (Blanche) of Newellton; as well as numerous nephews and nieces. Dottie was predeceased by both of her parents, her sister, Virginia Messenger, sister-in-law, Joan O’Connell, brother-in-law, Gilbert Bowes, Gerald Messenger and Loraine Adams, Niece, Verna Corkum and infant nephew, Jason O’Connell. Dottie was a faithful member of the Newellton Baptist Church, while she lived on Cape Island, and always attended church services at Bayside Home. The many years she resided at The Bayside Home, Dottie was lovingly and tenderly cared for by the staff. We offer many thanks to all who cared for her during those years. While she lived there she participated in Special Olympics, and very much enjoyed it. Dottie also worked at the Mayflower, in Barrington, for many years. Visitation will take place on Saturday, December 19, from 2:00-4:00 pm at the H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Barrington. Her funeral service will be held on Sunday, December 20, at the H.M.
